This would be a bit of a challenge, but you could theme your entire island as a mystery to solve!

You could make a crime scene and plant clues all over the island for observant visitors to find!

@torpid grove Also, for the entrance, how about a ramen bar? Every good Noir film has the detective start at a food stall or coffee shop in the rain, right? (Maybe use Cosmos Showers to simulate rain?)

In Mysterium, there's a "ghost" player trying to tell the other players the person, place, and thing involved in their murder. However, the "ghost" can only communicate using vision cards, which are abstract pictures that can be interpreted in a variety of ways.

You could try to explain your mystery in a similar way, by surrounding crime scenes with a variety of items that can be interpreted in many different ways. In order to figure out which villager is the perpetrator, visitors would have to visit the various "clue spots" and figure out which villager has an item tangentially related to them at all of the locations. (I hope I'm explaining this well enough...)

Yes! The new ladders are a godsend. Especially if you do run out of inclines. The ladders basically make it unlimited. It was the thing that bothered me most. Wanting more areas to get higher up and not having enough inclines to get there lol

I started yesterday and I'd say prepare well for it. Do it in chunks and choose one spot and then go to the next, or choose ome specific thing, like flowers and pick those up first, then items and then chop down the trees. If you need more help, dm me, I have a few good videos on YouTube to watch, which I found yesterday

Don't flatten your island unless you've already got a plan in mind.

If you're keeping your island's base topography largely intact, though, feel free to wing it (that's what I did)!

Note: "Winging it" still involves planning, just not on an island-wide scale, typically.

TL;DR: Don't worry too much about a "whole island" theme, if you're having trouble with inspiration. Just build what you like, where you like, whenever you like!

Roughly speaking, that's doable, but there are two parts that won't work:

• Houses (buildings in general) need space in front of them; they can't be right up against water or cliffs.

• Trees need a full 3x3 box of space (centered on the trunk) in order to grow, and the game won't even let you place them if there's cliff or rivers within that 3x3 box.

Another idea i've had, especially since the update announcement, is make a second player, put the house there, and turn it into a restaurant. But then i'd have to manage a second character that starts completely from scratch, i'd have to pay for all of the upgrades again, etc.

So, just restarted playing to be ready for the update, and remembered I was just done with the terraforming for my island, it's still missing a bit for charm since the diversity of trees is pretty bad, and I didnt place any path/custom ground yet.

for the first pic, if you have a carpet/picnic design you can place it under the tent to make it look more cozy! you can also place some items like a ukelele, books, candles or even a bear or panda! for the second pic, maybe some trees by (both) logs. i think nature and pathing would fill it up enough!

These three layouts (although just the first one on the pic) can have the airport perfectly aligned with the resident services/plaza. For the second and third one, the airport can be at a different spot. It really helped me when resetting ☺️

What if you used a stairwell and a pipe to simulate the entrance to a speakeasy, and the pipe connects to a room in your house (or a second character's house)?

My advice is to not flatten your island; doing so often leads to creative block and can exasperate any project procrastination already affecting you.

Also, don't be afraid to just fill an area with trees and/or water until you have a burst of inspiration. If you have trees, at least, your island won't feel totally barren and incomplete!

I agree, flattening your island creates block, its a tiring process and you change your mind so much that you just leave it flat for ages. If you restart, you have a unique layout to build upon. I only flattened my island because I love my villagers (specifically Marshal)

have a picture in mind, but still trial and error. you can mix them up (maybe a picnic blanket within The Path variants) or try to put items like Leaf Piles or Scattered Papers on top of them, or covering spots that are unable to put custom paths.

I learned the hard way due to I get jealous on other people's islands but its perfectly normal, just take a few looks of their island pictures, maybe you might think of some cool ideas to do as well. Like when the Direct dropped, I had the urge to get back into acnh to build and sort all of my areas to a 5 star island

But one thing will hurt your pocket will be bells so make sure you rack up A LOT of bells and materials before building and setting up
