Does anyone have any ideas to how I can design my island? I’m mainly stuck at the area near my secret beach. I want to move my rock garden there. The area is pretty much done. I just have to move my rocks. But yeah, the placement of my secret beach has always been an issue for me and now that I want my rock garden there makes things even harder. I just need ideas for terraforming and all the other stuff. I don’t care about making my map look pretty.

Your secret beach looks like a totoro on map 😂 or an owl. I’d suggest maybe… rock garden in the middle. Surrounding by different fruit trees… like a mini orchard or some sort if u don’t have that on ur island yet

@ornate arrow if you’re restarting before you do try planning out what you want, have a ton of pics for inspiration. Get a theme and stick to it. I would recommend flattening your island, not restarting. It may be tedious but it takes even longer to get back to the point where you are now. Plant all your flowers on the beaches, and put everything in storage, you’ll never know when you’ll need something. Start from making your dream entrance and go from there. It hurts your island to focus on many spots at once

Just an idea . Make a 3x3 minimum with dark dirt and light dirt path surround it with fence and put a bucket and water can on a stool or a shovel depending how big the area is u can do 3x3 horizontal and 3x3 vertical with some space in between like the photo

Might I suggest spreading your villagers around town, instead of lining them up at the bottom? (Unless you're trying to go for a boardwalk theme)

I find it nice having the villagers spread out because then you'll end up going around more of your town as you travel to visit them. There's not much point in decorative areas that you never actually look at, after all!

I like having my villagers have a sense of community, so having them lined up like that is intentional. Also I already moved them there and I don’t have the bells to move them again lol

I would try to make your water ways look more natural, not a perfect square or straight line. That will add more dimension

That's going to be very difficult, if you want to keep it semi-realistic, since trains can't handle inclines very well at all. It wouldn't look quite right for the tracks to go under or over your entrance area, but you certainly don't have room to have your path go over the tracks.

Hmm... actually...

You might be able to pull off an optical illusion if you lay down custom paths that make it look like your path goes over the tracks (basically, put down stairs designs).

If none of that works, you can always try to make it look like the tracks turn and go in/out of the airport.

• Don't flatten your entire island; go one section at a time.
• Put a great deal of thought into pathways early on; mobility is very important for long term livability!

Well, as a "quick fix" you can play around with putting grass in the middle of your paths. (I can take a few pics of what I mean, or you can come visit my island; I'm open right now)

I just watch a lot of videos, I also have a Twitter specifically for ACNH. So I repurpose a lot of the stuff I see and try to make it my own. I think the general layouts of those rooms were in videos I saw or screenshots I saw on Reddit.

@haughty kiln Nearly any island you see that makes you go "wow!" is probably using custom pathways of one kind or another. Even the islands that make use of the default paths (like parts of mine) typically employ a border design of some sort.

@haughty kiln From the pictures you've shown, your cliffs seem to be fairly linear. If you're going full-townycore, that's fine, but otherwise you should try to mix it up to make it look more natural.

Also, don't worry about the beach too much. I honestly love the look of the sand, so you can get away leaving it mostly open, if you want.

Though I do recommend putting a couple flowers on the beach for a splash of color!

On the flip side, coconut trees can grow anywhere there's sand, even if it's a sand path you've placed in the middle of town

Another tip to make use of is the fact that diagonal water and cliffs still give you a quarter of a space to work with. If you toy around, you can place furniture in ways you might not normally imagine!

that depends, though most people end up removing the natural cliffs to be able to build their own. if it fits your vision (say you want the back half of your island on the 2nd tier) then feel free to leave it and tweak it to what you plan to do

you could flatten your island and remove everything and then just start at making the entrance, working your way up the island. a lot of people end up doing this

The stone pathing needs to be redone. Right now, you have the stone hugging the borders of the area as tight as you can, and that's making it look clunky and wrong (for lack of better phrasing).

I suggest trying to fix the stone to a more defined shape, like a rectangle. Handle any excess grass after that by other means, such as bushes and furniture.

Also, experiment with the sand and wood paths; the wood, in particular, might be more fitting for what you're going for.
