a problem is ive spent so much money on nookazn buying stuff for my island that wouldnt work on a new theme (not sure on one yet), i suppose i could sell it but that will take so long
and i cant just do a few areas because my island is like 75% done and the stuff left is just open space

They will all be deleted

It's why you place patterns as clothes when manipulating where rocks spawn

This may be kinda a bad idea but you could put a cool entrance at the top of the cliff if you wanted to keep the cliff and then start the fairycore or aesthetic area there but idk

@wicked python You could consider using whatever path you have (maybe like a broken brick) to transition to a forest area/fairy core. I don't have two themes but I have a like keep out dangerous forest area where my house is so it's more spooky while the rest is more rural town ish

So consider construction stuff like deforestation, then more trees and plants, then start adding fairy stuff like mushrooms, lights, models, etc.

That would be a nice combo. So in terms of terraforming, it will be more natural in feel so rounded edges. When I was figuring out my island. I determined where I wanted the main stores first (nooks, ables, museum) then started drawing out some shapes that I liked that would be nice to get the overall 2nd level shape

Most faircore islands I've seen are typically littered with star fragment items and blue fowers

Fairycore just think whimsical mushrooms, star frags, bug models, hyacinth lamps, etc. If you want more fall core, that's more natural with mushroom items, logs, etcs.

Oh I see. I think neighborhoods are usually big enough that they don't look that great in pictures (too hard to fit that many houses into one picture), so Youtube island tours would probably be your best bet

My island is históric and natural themed I use the torches and campfires for good lighting, the cherry blossom lanterns I think work fairly well for the natural theme as well. Also bamboo floor lights and Festivale lamps. I tagged the wrong person I’m sorry. It was meant for @ember plover

There are many villagers I really like but sadly just didn't have any more place on my island. So instead, I tried to acquire their pictures and made little memorials for them representing either just their species or their theme/inspiration.

Idea for your neighbourhood. 8 houses in a 3x3 layout, each having a small, but decent yard in front of them, with either your Campsite, your own home, a 9th house or something entirely else in the middle. My two remaining villagers are also my two favourites and therefore live close to my own home. It would also be possible to just add the remaining three houses to the layout and make it a 3x4 layout.

Every island looks pretty if you yourself like it! You don't have to compare yours to other islands, there are so many possibilities to design them that every island can look so different from each other. Just go for whatever you like best! It doesn't have to look the same as other islands, just like you want it. If you are happy looking at your island, you already got the best island in the world.

You could look up little park areas or something! I tried this one once, main purpose to rest there while waiting for others to finish selling their turnips.

Just pick all the items you personally really like and try to find a theme that combines them all. Let yourself be inspired by places, games/movies/books/other media you really like. Try recreating stuff from islands from other people and give it your own little spin.

A good idea to start out with your island is to start designing the area around your Service Center, since you cannot move it and therefore don't have to fear having to rip it all up if you decide to move it. Try to find what surroundings you like most. Do you want to put a river around the Service Center? Trees? Fences? Flowers? As soon as you are content with your Service Center (it doesn't have to be perfect, just fine for you!), you can expand the theme. What do you want to put next to the Service Center? A Residential Area? The Shopping District?
Alternatively, start your island by designing the entrance first.

It also helps to make up a little bit of lore for your island and your character. This spawns a lot of ideas to design everything! Is your island self-sufficient? Then make a little farm or an orchard! Was your island created/founded by someone or something else a long time ago? Make a shrine or a memorial for them! There are many possibilities.

i really like seeing how people blend different themes onto one island. i feel like if the whole island is one theme it can be a bit repetitve but multiple themes keep it fresh and interesting. although, it can be difficult to get the transitions to look right

I visited one island that was "Japanese garden" theme for the entire island, and honestly I wished they had gone with a slightly different theme for at least half their island.. it was tiring seeing the same 8-10 furniture paired with the same trees/flowers for the entire island
