Are you keeping that little landbridge? Also, I personally would probably put the chair and table around where the birdbath is, and if you want to keep the front area as her "yard," I'd personally fence that area off with country fences and bushes (leaving one opening for the entrance), and then give her a little flower garden or pumpkin patch

But also, the area to the right of her house (where the log stakes are) looks like it could use more height, maybe be including a tree or something taller. You can use the "trees on cliff" glitch if you don't have space for a tree

i personally like matching my villager's exteriors with their interiors, because it is like expanding the canon. so eunice and vesta share a laundromat on my island. but i also love when people reimagine their villagers' hobbies or careers and give them something like a flower shop or cafe

I'd personally add a stunted hardwood or cedar tree in the tile directly left of the red rose so you have more gradation from the wedding bench to the tall cedar tree. Right now, the height goes from 0 (tiles) to 3 (wedding bench) to 1 (bush), to 10 (cedar tree), but if you add something higher behind the wedding bench, it'll be 0 (tiles) to 3 (wedding bench) to 6 (stunted tree, or whatever tall thing you want to add there) to 10 (cedar tree). And the bottom left feels like it needs more bulk, so I'd add a stunted tree there, and at least 2-3 bushes.

You could make a big sea with your house in the middle in the back and in the last possible level. Then u let waterfalls down the different levels and let them flow into the sea? Then I would def use quite a lot of trees, flowers and bushes around the river and sea area as its usually the areas where the most plants are growing

hmm i think the wedding fence could help, it's not tall but it does look nice and encloses spaces well! if you want walls, may i suggest terraforming a layer up and placing the simple panels flush against it? you could add plant furniture (i like the monstera and the cypress items) and shrubs on the second layer to make it look more natural too ^^

it's hard to make paths for things when everything is squished together

I'd focus on spreading out all your buildings before making paths

but it looks like you don't have all your villagers yet either, it's easier to plan your paths after you've structured where you want all of your buildings

Right now, it's just a large reflection pool and a fountain in the background. I have the same problem! I suggest maybe having a path meet up to the museum and then the town hall or go go the left around that house and into the left side of the town hall.
Another thing, I know you didnt ask for this but maybe make your rivers look a big more natural? Make them bendy etc and then could look awesome! ♡

I drew up more or less what I wanted. Realized I had to flatten my island first. Then terraformed from scratch. A lot of people find it difficult to flatten so I wouldn't do it unless you don't mind terraforming and waterscaping.

just a lot of flowers and open forest-type things. springcore is generally orange, yellow, green and white with mush and then meadow is a bunch of colors in the forest-like aspect. Both are kinda subcategories to forestcore.

Lot of terraforming is just curving cliffs and trying it out.

Also, work on small areas and don’t try to do everything at once.

I don't know if this is helpful but when I design I don't think of the whole island, I only focus on a small area because it is easier to manage and think about. For villager houses you could make yards based on color schemes or their hobbies.

For winter themed islands, i usually use items that are monochtomatic in colour or different shades of brown. It looks really calm but tbh idk how it would look on other seasons...my first try on a winter island ended up failing once the seasons changed lmao.

My jungle area is 90% green mums, but I have the occasional black cosmos hidden in there, and I'm not sure if I want to keep the few black cosmos or make it all green mums. Do you guys mind reacting with a black heart if you think I should keep the black cosmos and a green heart if you think I should just do 100% green mums?

I know some jungle islands use orange, yellow, pink, and red flowers, but I wanted my jungle to feel more like a wild jungle like the ones from Jurassic Park than a tropical resort-type jungle.

You definitely can! I think for the bottom windows you can use a row of white phone boxes or simple panels with white window design. and on the second level you can do the same thing! for roof, You can make a third level and use stalls with roof tile design that matches the museum :D

Don't know if it's fit your theme but I have a display with a few garden stands with fossils on them and one with a pharaoh mask. You can use floor lights and the rope fence to make it look like a proper display. Also I placed a shovel on the ground beside it to give it a that extra detail

Lol I keep meaning to make my island more like rural Japan, but I just can't handle a lot of the villagers with asian houses. Boots and Billy both have beautiful houses for a rural Japanese island, but I got moderately annoyed every time I saw Boots walking around with his upturned eyes.

For me, it's mostly the 1600 hours I've put into the game and checking the top posts on Reddit, Twitter, and Instagram everyday that have really improved my island! I remember back in May I put down a custom design picnic blanket for the first time and thought I was a genius lol. I can't think of anything all my myself - I really need to look at other people's island to figure out what kind of terraforming would look good, or what furniture goes with what types of areas.

I also spend a lot of time editing areas. After walking past an area for a few months, you sometimes come up with better ways to arrange the furniture.

I love seeing the end results in here, and love seeing what yall do, but my struggle is Moreso in the beginning / middle phases. Before decorating. going based off the map, it definitely does feel like you may be doing too much at once and planning out too big of an area. i won't say that's a bad thing to do, but most people will take a small area, terraform, decorate and finish it, which they then expand up on. i think the best way to get an idea of how to go about building up an island is by watching ACNH speed builds on YouTube. it'll show most, if not, all the work that people will do when building areas on their island. a few youtubers you can check that come to mind are Toffee, redleafpile, heyitseve and Kinoto. they've all built islands that are absolutely amazing and have shown it from start to finish

I agree with this. Symmetry really just depends on the theme/feel of your island. More nature themed islands (for example) tend to have very little symmetry because it doesn't look very natural

I also have a lot of long paths and “ hidden”shortcuts. On the side note symmetry in design can be a bit boring . Something about drawing the eye to a focal point that stands out more often makes us comfortable.

My paths are all connected to the buildings on my island because I have everything spread out, and I have them weaving around too and curving in certain places to help make it flow. Personally, no part of my island is not connected by paths. The path from my entrance goes all away around the island and comes back around, basically, so that I always can get from point A to point B without veering

Some of these really nice builds with cliffs, I notice they have areas in the back not completely filled, and it begs the question. Whats a good way to stop weeds from growing on those ledges you may not easily be able to access?

I use a double space behind usually and place tall items that can be seen over the cliff edge. The mushroom platform works really well

You can see one peeking out on the right. But I also have a Cresenct moon chair and another mushroom hiding a pipe at the back og the cliff there
