When I see your island, it looks fine to me, but I wonder about if I lived on the island... would I want to go camping that close to an airport? or would I rather be somewhere "off-grid" and isolated?

what areas are populated by a neighborhood? Those should have nice, clean angles and modern fencing. The farther out you go, it should be more organic. More jagged cliffs, less patterned trees, more woods or wildlife.
pretend you live there, and ask questions about what makes sense where.

There's a house close to it which is supposed to be a post office building. There's also a tiny picnic area below that house. To the right of the area, there's a garden which is supposed to be the island entrance. There's no villager houses close to it.

they're reccomended bc clean up after is sooo easy. Use a design that you will scrap, and once you're finished if you delete the design all the mannequins will disappear

Actually not a bad idea! I think I still prefer it towards the starts. I'm doing a little walkway to the left of the shop leading to the secret beach. Having the cookie cart RIGHT next to thr cliff of the walkway looks kinda jarring. But boxes and barrels could still look neat ^^

Idk how many times I did and I still do today. I think I changed it yesterday. If you have a friend nice enough to keep your fave items and you’re okay with restarting. I restarted back in June cuz of my river layout and I’m so much happier

Btw not all rivers need to be connected to the outlets to function as a river! This helped me so I could just create rivers where I wanted them when designing only a small area

Honestly if you hate it. Have someone store your favorite items and restart. I was in the same spot and I just made the decision to restart. I actually got one of my dreamies as my starters. If you’re at a creative block it’s okay to restart
