Don't knock 4-star. Sometimes 4star can be more impressove than 5 creatifitywise, but the game will reduce the evals cause of too many weeds, dropped items, trees etc, even tho it could look really amazing

Weeds are fine bc they don't count in the evals but the dropped items and trees are a killer 😔 nothing's wrong with 4 stars and tbh I'm trying to knock mine back down so the annoying lily of the valleys can stop growing in random places lol

@vernal oxide Yeah I just reset my island again and my service building is like 14 steps away so it could have ended up a little closer but I kind of like not having much room to make a big grand entrance. Probably because I really suck at designing island entrances

@tranquil smelt if you want a structured neighborhood, the left side looks good for all 10 houses (they'll prob have around a 7x8 sized yard) but if you want then scattered or semi-scattered you can put them anywhere and decorate around the area to be their yard or have their houses be part of a "shop" etc

@weak bone lol I used to do that too and felt so dumb about it 😂 also if you have a single flower planted by itself sometimes it will randomly duplicate, so that might be something you want to do to get more of the harder to breed flowers like the blue roses

I used to have stitches, and I put lots of toys & snacks out in his small yard. Now I have punchy (but he's getting replaced by Lucky) and instead of a yard I just set him in my witchy area near my house with a graveyard behind. When decorating, you don't always need to go by personality; sometimes just rheir house exteriors may fit well in an area even if it doesn't related to them! :) @woven drift

@tranquil obsidian lots of people go for a mixed theme bc they can't decide/want lots of different elements on their island as well, so that's always an option! The beauty of this game is that it gives you flexibility to do whatever you want bc it's your own island. Coming here to see inspo or get advice is nice, but at the end of the day you should just make your island how you want it to be without comparing it to others :)

@tranquil obsidian Marshall is pretty neutral, you could give him a library or cafe, or even just a nice rattan furniture set and some flowers. For Octavian, you could try a space/workshop theme? Maybe a workbench and rocket, like he's building it 🙂

I was struggling with a theme and figured I'd post my own personal solution to the problem: I love to travel, and my favorite place is the Netherlands. Of course right now, I can't really travel. I don't know when I will get to go back. So I rerolled my island and plan to make it Netherlands inspired. Anyway, just an idea for those like me struggling. Maybe think of a place you have been to a love or a place you'd like to go to
I looked at some aerial photos of the canals I loved so much for inspiration on terraforming. I found this cool old five pointed start fort and I am gonna work around that idea (for points for simplicity for me). Anyway, I'm excited finally

@woven drift you should put weeds and flowers in those little grass patches on your dirt road. And then put trees there if you want to look natural. And when you have the mush DIYs you should put mushroom parasols on those waterfalls and replace that stone stool with a mush log.

@woven drift If it’s an orchard, you can put them in rows or clusters based on the fruit. If it’s a forest, it’s best to just stagger them with uneven spacing to get a more natural look.

@slim topaz unless you're using The Path or a custom that's more curvy and flexible, I don't think there's a great way to connect a 3 wide with an incline or bridge. Usually if my paths meet those projects and it doesn't match up in dimensions, I don't have them connect or make an extra large path area around the project

I usually let them connect diagonally, then its not so jaring and with a normal dirt-like part it also doesnt have to be perfect. So diagonal fits that quite well, in my opinion

@slim topaz ooo in my DA I still have a city theme, and the street code I used had sidewalks along the main road so it worked out for me - the roads connecting to bridges would have 2 wide roads and 1 wide sidewalk (each side) and I never let the road connect with an incline, I just made a sidewalk/dirt trail or hid the incline entirely if it's going to a natural area

@frosty summit I don't have that setup, but what I would do is just connect your airport to the plaza--then make it so the plaza has only one or two exits to the rest of the island. All your grand entrance ideas can go between the plaza and the rest of the island, since that's the space people have to walk through to enter your island.

what I did with mine is just build up the second and third tier to be a bit larger than I envisioned. from there I mapped it out with dirt pathing and marked where my inclines would be. tbh, you could totally do the same and leave your incline where it is and map around it. if you find that you need to move it then, you can. that way you dont waste bells demolishing only to have to re-set it up back in the same spot 🙂

@slate shadow For cottage core forests, I found it useful to make the trees staggered and add some more weeds and flowers at the edges and try to break up the path a lot by integrating plantlife in them to make it seem worn and overgrown

i'm actually going to ask my prev. question in a different way. i'm so stuck lolz. where IRL do you think this house would be? it feels to bold to be suburban, too warm toned to be in the snowy mountains, too bright to be in the forest...maybe at like..the playground? or maybe an island host stand?

Yeah it's kinda hard without making your island into a city with elements specific to sf/la; with my second suggestion it's hard for me to explain correctly but the colors also made me think of a treehouse for some reason lmao

Hi I have a question about stunting trees in different stags of growth.
I thought that if you put a sapling behind it that it would prevent the tree from growing but that didn't happen for me. Has anyone else had success with this?

Pretty sure there's no way to permanently stunt trees on the land tho, they'll only stay in sapling stage if it's too close to water, cliff, or another tree

@upper gulch maybe make your native fruit not be in the orchard. Or have either a shorter row (or 2 short rows if you want) in the centre for the native fruit and put the decoration stuff at the front of that?
alternatively, make your roaming section span the 3 center fruit rows to make it centered 🙂

@sterile epoch I broke mine all at the same time after blocking off the rest of my island preventing them to spawn except the place I wanted. But only one will respawn every day. And any questions about the rock garden should be asked in #garden-science-discussion or check for information in #garden-science-info

pretty happy with how my stargazing spot is looking so far!! it has a lil "secret" hoppy path to it around a cliff and everything
not pictured cause i forgot to get a pic of it but at the bottom of the cliff is one of the corner beach rocks and i have an astronaut and lander on that along with a few more nova lights/star clocks that you can see if you stand by the telescope
its at the top of my campsite which i finished last night and im also pretty happy with
and to the right of it is a ramp which leads right down into a lil beach sauna/bath
and if you look up here apart from the fact i didnt fully do the sauna nor make the stargazing spot yet in this pic you get a nice view of the waterfalls and the lighthouse
tl;dr this one general area is probably my favorite spot on my island now

I'm so sad. I was going to make a Wedding/Concert Venue here with all 12 Zodiac items. I finally bought all the items and found out I can't place Leo and Sag outdoors. Should I stay the course and continue, knowing I'd only be using 10 of the zodiac items? I think I need new suggestions for how to use this area. Any ideas appreciated!
