@grand nova maybe work on making it feel a little more lived in? You could add a music stand with scattered papers by it to make it look like you’re in the middle of composing. Or a cushion with a bamboo lunchbox or something by the fountain. Small things like that can help give the space more layers. You could also add a path leading up to the house to fill in the middle space. Hope that helps 🙃

so I cleared out my whole island and moved houses etc. to the beach..my problem now is that whenever I start to terraform it looks very unnatural..does anyone have any tips for natural looking rivers and cliffs

• avoid stretches of straight cliffs, make sure to add curves to it
• also avoid right angles unless you cover it from ground level by tree or from the top by a bush/flower/deco
• dont make the shape of the whole cliff be too boxy, this is my map if you wanna see how my cliffs are shaped

@woven drift here's examples of hiding a right angle cliff edge. In the 1st, the bamboo is in front of the corner cliff so you can't tell. In the 2nd, the cliff under the right bush isn't curved, but it looks fine bc of the bush

@woven drift natural waterways are a lot harder for me, my only advice is to make sure to vary the width of it and make it curvy and random, but its a lot of trial and error

Aside from what chuck already mentioned, another tip is to not try too hard
If you try too hard, they might end up looking manmade, which is blocky and straight
Now I’m also just starting to remake my island so I’ve only really done the waterfalls by the entrance so uh, not any rivers yet...
Don’t be afraid of the blocky parts when making waterfalls, if you constantly cut them in half it’ll still look blocky (but of course, you should rather do too many cut off edges than too many uncut)
And although this is a personal opinion, do not plan on an island planner. Might seem good, but you should rather plan some stuff you want to your island and roughly where, but not on an island planner since you’ll see the big picture which might make you inclined to make everything bigger on the planner as well, and when it doesn’t look good in the game you’ll end up frustrated.

@tawdry river If you're going to stick with them as being public parks, it may be easer to think of them being different from each other based on the activities your villagers can do there. Just like in urban areas, not all public parks are the same. Some have more wildlife and gardens, exercise equipment, playgrounds, picnic benches and bbqs, historical landmarks, etc. Try picking one of these things for each area, and let that be its focus.

@wraith frost first off, obviously it would depend on what “theme” you’re going for
You might not have a very specific theme like others but even just something like more natural/suburban/city would give a lot of information

And second, even though it’s a personal opinion, don’t look at the big picture like that, often times things like rivers end up looking way too manmade, or certain things take up way too much/little space than what you anticipated but I get if you still want to if you still want to plan a lot ahead

Other than that, consider a farm?

Or a zen garden, that’s a pretty popular one too

@woven drift Terraforming is easy, its pushing and pulling what you want and dont want, there are guides everywhere that can teach you but its ultimately up to you to put it into action because no one else can terraform your island apart from you.
As stated before all terraforming is just pixel art on three layers so its if you have a hard time doing so try to look up guides from other unrelated sources like fantasy map making or pixel art guides

Hey I'm having a lot of issues with my town hall placement. Would like to see what anyone else has done with this kinda layout. Everytime I try to redesign my island I get like a mental block bc of the townhall, beach rocks and sticky out piece of land placement. Its making me not wanna play anymore. I'm really hoping people have made nice islands with a sucky town hall location 🙏🙏🏝️😭

I don’t think you can round custom path designs, only canon designs, because I tried curving them before, it didn’t work

I think I deleted good examples I had from my island of using the basic paths since I do use a lot of customs now. Let me just make one from scratch and take a screenshot

@tawdry harbor the best way to "curve" in game paths is to break them up into 2x2 circles and 1x1 squares in-between. First pic is an old path I had leading to Redd and second is not mine but they did something similar (the smaller circles are custom design)

Basically, you seem to already use 2 wide paths, so I'd suggest keeping them about the same width as that for diagonals too. try to imitate this, or use Mockinjae's idea since that also produces nice work as well

maybe use Mockinjae's for more off-the-beaten path areas, mine work better in built up areas or around gardens etc

but it's personal preference really

the other benefit with mine is you can add nice custom path borders to the side to make the vanilla paths look more interesting

Maan, if anyone could help I’d much appreciate it so where you see the marker when I’m standing on the map - I want to either make a little spot for the museum or start moving some villager houses because I want them semi-scattered but for them to have their own little decorated home (for the exterior). I’m terraforming where I am to a first level so I can add waterfalls, ect. Also should I get rid of the bodies of water and add my own over time to completely flatten the back of my island? Sorry that’s literally SOOO much. I’m just not good at this? Aha.

@winter agate I know a lot of people have trouble making their rivers natural looking after they filled them up so they regret it; I would suggest practicing waterscaping first to see how you like it before going ahead with you plan :) filling your rivers and making your own is better imo because it will give you more space (esp since you have a double south rivermouth)

@worn kettle looks great! If you want suggestions, I think using pumpkin hats instead of the custom path might give the patch more dimension

@winter agate I wouldn't recommend completely removing areas, especially if you're already having trouble deciding what to do. Look at certain parts of the area that you like as is, and build around it. Completely flattening everything makes it more difficult to come up with ideas to add to what you have.
