You might want to make that first layer a bit wider and put stuff on there too, say flowers or wooden stakes or hyacinth lamps
Also, some stuff on the second layer that isn't tall like the mushrooms and trees. maybe a tree stump on one side to make some asymmetry unless you're going for a symmetrical look

yeah, wooden stakes and any fences don't effect tree growth, but if a tree is right next to the edge of a ledge or face of a cliff it will stagnate growth

Like Red Cosmos are more vibrant than Red Hycinths. And the yellow bud in the center adds to it in a way. And Tulips are more pastel-like. Reserving those for spring.

@woven drift if you want to use a custom design i'd recommend using the regular ones then the custom designs on top so it makes the sound of walking on pavement but it all depends on the theme you're going for. ( a lot of cottagecore islands just use the custom design paths and it tends to look better)

@desert mirage a if I were you I would put the iron benches right nest to the fountain facing away from it, surround the rest of the fountain with bushes and/or hedge fencing so that the fountain is completely surrounded, and make the patches for flowers larger and more dynamic: maybe all the types of white flowers mixed together. in general, bushes, more flowers, hedges, and benches could make it look better.

@hushed cipher I don't have one for sylvia even though I did have her at one point, however it's best to think about a few things when designing villager yards. 1) what's their asthetic inside? Could it be used for inspiration for their outside yard as well? 2) what colour and materials are their house made from? Could you do something styled like the house? 3) what interests does the villager have? Could you give them something according to that?For example, I have a library and flower patch for Bea since she's a normal villager and does those things a lot.

@night fjord you know, I did consider that actually! But with her house exterior being so dark coloured (think Lucky’s house but with a purple roof), I feel like a fruity yard would seem out of place 😂 plus I’ve already taken a similar route with Stitches’ and Tangy’s yard.

So I'm a little stuck. I set up my villager homes in an estate style in 2 areas. (See picture) my problem is I dont know what to put around them so it doesn't look as bare. I'll happily take suggestions. My aesthetic is woodsy but neat

@misty palm I use them throughout my island to add color and vary the look of the hardwood trees. I also have a tiny group of 3 apple trees on my farm so you could do a small orchard like that where its just a couple groups of trees

@celest abyss Think about what will be fun for you to build/decorate. For me, i really enjoyed terraforming scenic mountains and canyons plus I love using a lot of color. So my island is a very colorful national park w a small town and a lot of natural cliffs and waterfalls
@celest abyss you could also base your island off of something like a movie/video game/place you've visited etc. My winter island is going to be based on my fav book and video game and im excited to try to recreate my fav scenes

@frigid sluice which part exactly do you not like? Personally, I like the layout you've got for your neighborhood. It feels a little empty, so I think you should add some trees, bushes and decorate their yards. I think its good, it just needs some decorations to fill it out
