@ionic raft i would maybe place another one of those circle stone paths somewhere to the right of your log bench? if you use the circle as your path foundation and fill in thr spaces with your stepping stones and wood patterns it will feel like a more cohesive pathway

very different vibes, personally I think the dirt one is a more unique application overall, also works bit better than brick when applied in wide areas (wider than 3)

I think the stone looks better as it's currently decorated, but if you want a warm dirt vibe, i'd change some of the fencing/furniture to be a lil' warmer 🙂 i also think the dark dirt might give you the same feel but decrease the contrast

thinking about paths on my island there's actually very few places that would need you to 'walk' from one path directly to another over the seam, on that both path are serving as just 'roads' so I haven't really had to deal with that problem

@sharp jetty oh very good. I don't think you'll have a problem connecting your hyacinth garden to the rest then imo. I've got about 5 villagers in a neighborhood type setting too, and I just moved the rest wherever the heck I felt there was an open space that needed somethinf in it or a setting that could use a house (like my little island that I put Fauna's house on above)

@sharp jetty incline limit is the worst. (My nature-y island has tooons of random elevation and its very limiting). I think you have to think about acess points--sometimes its nice to have an aria that's only accessible through a round about path--makes the island feel larger. But yeah, other things need a good flow.

@wide moon then I'd go for kind of a squiggly river with lots of little streams or tiny islands in it. Use the river to define the different areas you'll have (because you won't want to box them off with walls or roads and cliffs lead to the incline problem)

In case it helps anyone, I thought I'd show the flow of paths/access to my nature-y isand. It's just a series of loops that take you through all the different areas, but I find if you limit access to 2-3 entrances to a zone, you can make things feel more focused. (This was prompted by an earlier discussion of the struggles of incline limits lol)

Sooo I'm trying to do a fantasy themed island.. more like the location, Ballonlea, in Pokemon Sword and Shield.
If you don't know what I mean. The Ballonlea in Pokemon Sword and Shield is like full of mush lights and plants and stuff.. any ideas of how can I make a replica in my island.. like a decoration suggestion that I need (ofc mush lights in fall)

@honest abyss It only T's at the very end so if you keep going it'll correct itself, if you have the fence going past the house you can just stand to the right of the house facing up for the last fence part

@median vessel this is realllly late, but here's something you can do! The stalls are "stacked" down the row and in the horizon you can see this person used the stone incline~ for your idea specifically you would have the incline first and leading up to the second level where you can then stack the stalls along a third level cliff

@mental oak for specific areas that are more scenic, i would suggest placing a viewing spot and constantly going back to that spot w camera and using it to get a full picture of how you're decorating. In both of these areas, I was constantly going back to the log bc this is where I wanted people to sit and take pics so the view had to be best from here

here’s my opinion on how to build an island: it’s best to kind of do everything in little bits at a time. Don’t go section by section, because then once you’ve done all the sections you get burnout. You shouldn’t restart your island, but just improve little parts that you dislike. Now, if you want to change your entire theme, it’s probably best to restart, but still follow what I said above. For example, on my island, first I did all of the pathing, then I did all of the flowers, then I filled it all in. If you make mistakes, that’s okay because you can always fix them later.
Also take this opinion with a grain of salt lmao

i just redid a bunch of my island and i would switch my focus among different parts of the island. if u work on one part of the island for too long u might get bored or burnt out :')

I prefer doing sections tbh. I like planning everything from a starting point and then branching it out. Like starting with entrance, then if entrance is covered and your RS is near start decorating the area around RS etc etc etc. Then start thinking on how to connect it etc etc.

@oblique depot For a theme just ask yourself what you personally like. Do you like a more elegant vibe, a more nature vibe, maybe you like vibrant colors etc etc.
Just think of what you like even if its as small as I love nova lights, because from there on you can think about stuff that might match nova lights well and then broaden out to a theme^^

@lyric tendon @dense plank not entirely sure what the convo is about but it seems to be about the houses and yards. I think putting a 4x4 dirt square which marks out the houses measurements and then decorating before moving the house helps a lot to plan where you want the house and how much space you need for each yard!

@dense plank well it also depends what exactly you want for the yards. You can keep them small and basic with a little seating area or small garden for each villager. Or more personalize them but have them slightly larger. I personally didn’t like the island designer websites lol but if you haven’t, make a 4x4 dirt spot where you think you’d want to move the house, then try decorating around the dirt square. It gives a better understanding of space you need or dont need

@echo rose you don't necessarily need to continue the river if you just want the look of a diagonal bridge at your entrance~ I know many people use cliffs and trees and waterfalls around the bridge to make it look cohesive without a long river, or they make the area into an extended pond with lots of land inbetween (like stepping stones - makes the area look like a water bungalow)

@stable quarry I think it's a great start! If you want suggestions- I would extend the cliff on the left so that it goes more to the left and partially blocks the RS and have the cliff on the right reduced so that both of them makes a more natural curve/path if that makes sense? Cus rn the entrance has a very funnel-like shape that narrows to the RS (which isn't bad either if that's what you're going for)

@rare basin yeah! I used a custom design on the zen cushion pile (diy) so it looks like a stack of packages. And then I also put wrapping paper on top to add to it. It’s kind of hard to see

@blissful schooner you could always try a beach restaurant and maybe have a small graveyard or shrine sorta thing on one of the big rocks in the back? That could help save space but still include your ideas!

I don't think so necessarily. If you think about it, most those things require to be traveled to. I think an ocean front restaurant would be awesome. The farm also has flexibility as far as where to locate it.

@ionic raft I actually never thought of doing that! You might be able to do some interesting things with decorations like use the forced perspective to your advantage. (Like with simple pannels on the top level hiding the bottom from view untill you go down)

pretty much every other "Japanese Island" have this so, if you want to use this approach, it'd be pretty easy.
for stuff on the stall you can probably look up pictures on instagram etc.
one thing that most omits that in streets like this, there's actually stuff placed in front of houses, like umbrellas, benches, bamboo/hay based stuff
so maybe you can make the street wider like 4 instead 2 to include them

my honest thought however is that vertical streets with 'houses' facing sideways is just often not well suited to be recreated in AC
they can still have good results that definitely have that 'flavor', but the same degree of polish can't be said for how convincing they are. depends on what you aim for I guess

@still summit Thank You!! That is why I didn't complete it yet I wanted to get some input before I got too far. I will definatly try making the street 4 instad of 2, and see how that works.

probably not gonna be helpful since this is a horizontal street, but this is what I was happy with. This is a bit more modern in meiji era so there's street light and iron fencing. on the right is a small fox shrine.

@woven drift I don't think it's bad at all! I do think it's a little bit spread out over a too big area. If you bring it all in a little tighter, I think you'll get the effect you were going for :)
