@simple sphinx I used to be only about custom design paths, but they cause a lot of lag and they can look weird when you use a lot of them. You can do a lot w in game paths and it forces you to get creative and use them in unique and interesting ways

@chrome wharf I personally try not to have more than 2 repeating of the same design (but you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes) and keep it a consistent thickness

@chrome wharf I don't use the path but I've seen people who do use it have double the thickness of your path and I think that might give you more flexibility in curving it to look natural

@chrome wharf breaking up the path into smaller sections will help too, so it's not one long continuous line. You can drop another pattern in between or just continue after a break

@chrome wharf i use the path, i recommend doing it some part thick and some more thin, also there are some variations where you could find a circle of the path, i use it to break the path and make it more natural and less repetitive. hope this helps 😄

after going through the painful process of restarting an island i can finally start working on my new one, and i don’t know which of the two paths should i use. my theme is cottagecore/developed forest, i love the second path but i hate how the creator deleted the original version without the stars 😭

If you use the second one, you can break it up by making it thicker/thinner in some places, not making one continuous line/breaking it up with stone circles etc, and put leaf patterns intermittently

villager yards was the hardest part of my island. at first i had them in a neighborhood form and didn’t like it so i spread then around my island but i’ve gotten them all completed finally

I recommend putting stuff related to that villager,if they are a duck maybe put a pool or maybe a spa or something and there and maybe if they're snooty also put a lounge chair with a coconut juice ,this is just an example ofc but just see what they are interested or what fits with their style or species

For me I’m a little extra and make backstories for all my villagers and decorate around that. For instance my backstory for Melba is that she’s an entomologist so she has a study around her house for studying / catching bugs, that kinda thing. I think it gives your villagers like an added personal touch when you give them something special to them.

@odd walrus I think if you’re going to respace them out, I would recommend putting down a 4x4 dirt pathing and decorating the yard before placing the house to make sure you have enough space for what you plan to do!

no, where you would put the house! villager houses are 4x4 so mark our the space you’ll put it before you put it down so that you can decorate and see how you like it. if you don’t like it, you can move on without having wasted 50k!

@odd walrus yeah the villager house is a 4x4 so if you place a 4x4 dirt pathing that’s planning where the house will be. So you can decorate around that spot before moving the house again and potentially hating it

Place an item up top if you want like I did. Then use the water tool and hit the side (so the middle piece up top) and I did that in the middle piece on each side. Then climb down. Then use the water tool again. And hit it on the ground again (I did 3 squares on each side). Does that make sense?

Hello everyone. I am (on my current island) using time travel to keep my date in March of 2020 until I catch every single bug, fish and sea creature you possibly can before moving on to April. I have gotten my 3 stars and K.K Slider performance and unlocked terraforming. I have done a little bit, but I am now stuck. I have so much empty land that I have no idea what to do with. @woven drift @idle shadow 's idea of pathing is a good one - you don't actually need to make a straight path anywhere, maybe use some of the standard paths to make circles or 'patchwork' squares leading up to your painting area? (I've seen people use the dark and light dirt paths so they look like square paving stones, and then laying transparent patterns like leaves or flowers over it for decor) You can still have maybe 2-3 hyacinths around the paths, and even use like 1 fence on its own somwhere

As far as I can see an arch wouldn't fit there because they're 3x1 tiles big. You only got 2 tiles space even behind the lamps because of the water.

I would highly recommend using the dirt pathing tool and making a 4x4 square (size of the villager homes) and then giving yourself enough space to decorate each yard. Some use smaller yards to decorate more on their island. Others use larger yards to more so customize it to the villager! @tranquil narwhal

Hi all! Could I get some help with Vivian's yard? I'm trying to go for a white/orange theme to match her house but I feel like it looks really colorless against the sand but when i add a bunch of flowers it looks really cluttered. Any suggestions on how to improve?

@junior kelp That's a really nice start! You've got areas laid out etc. and clearly have furniture to match. You'll get there definitely - I suggest thinking details now if you're looking to make it more 'aesthetic' - laying patterns like rugs for the cafe/sofa areas, white strips or rope fence for the bikes, lighting of different heights - street lamps, lamp with lampshade, garden lanterns, and same principle goes for adding houseplants + flowers. Height variations is something that really makes an area go from 'something's missing' to 'ok this is it'. Grouping things in 'areas' and making them sort of uneven groupings number-wise really goes a long way!

Also, you can totally do cottagecore with a monochrome theme. It'll look more witchy than pastel but still looks good!

@brave storm Why don't you try experimenting with a few 'themes' in different areas of your island and work on the one you like best? If not, plenty of islands also have areas with different themes. I have a 'suburban' village house area, a zen garden, a cottagecore woods area etc etc.

@brave storm never mind! I did find an old picture. This layout takes some space, but each flower can only breed with the two others. (I can also share the gene tags custom designs I made---keeping track of my roses to get the blue rose was involved lol)

Are you looking for something passive or active? If passive like looking at a painting, would go more botanic garden entrance. If active, would go stalls with simple panels as info panels and insect/fish models and small fossils, or science items like plasma ball, microscope, lab set, etc. Think exhibits not part of the actual museum inside.

@sterile hound if you haven’t tried it yet, you could make a 4x4 dirt square (marks out the villager house) and then decorate around to see how much space you would want for the villager yards! That’s what I did!

Oh its not an issue :) (((Sorry that this isn't a layout pic y'all, but I'm not gunna put them on the custom paths design till I'm totally done with them lol))) it is very dark, but it's a lot more jagged and less symerrical than the path--I had to make it 'cause I couldn't find somethinf that looked wild enough for my tastes haha @rare basin
