@stone magnet you can search "in:island-layout has:image map" to see what others have done with theirs to give you some ideas. i would suggest putting them where you can have easy access to them and if you invite people over a lot they can have access to your shops easily as well.

Been doing some more planning - making a cute little area for one of my villagers (still need to decide who out of Coco, Tangy, Apollo, Deirdre, Fauna, Punchy, Scoot, Vivian, Merengue and Marshal)
It's the area to the left - what do yall think about it so far? It's going to connect to the beach and will go past an informative statue or stonehenge since I think they look pretty neat, and I'll probably build a path that goes up behind it to connect to my house (gonna be across the west river)

@marsh heron I usually go by their character aesthetics/what they like/personalities :) for example, Judy has some Celeste items and pastel interior, so I gave her crescent moon chairs and star clocks with pink and white flowers in her yard. Dom is a jock and likes red, so I put a lot of red in his yard + some things like tire toys in his yard. He also kinda lives in my natural area bc of his house exterior

@woven drift Moving rivers and making water features for the whole island is a big hassle so I sympathize with you. I'd think firstly about where you really want the water to go, so which buildings and so on would look good with water near them. For instance, my zen garden for Zucker is right next to my river, and I have some nice water features around that side of the island because it's generally more nature-y

Probably can remove D6 square part sticking out removed for more space and round off the right side of the D6 bend of the river for more space. Unless you want a pound half in D6and half in C6

Then also think about whether you want a wide canal, or small natural looking rivers, and then where bridges should go to make your island easy to traverse/ look good

I also had “don’t know what to use or do make this transition blend in to go from one area to the next spot”. Then, leave it be then walk pass it then get an idea from another angle. So idk if this helps for others, if you get to caught up to the point you’re frustrated, work on another thing that you currently working on and it’ll come to you as you revisit it. @brave edge you don't necessarily need to plan out your entire map, if you're struggling to string ideas together. Personally, I work on the places which can't be moved first (entrance/airport, RS, secret beach)
Plan those places out first in more detail and more ideas will probably come to you (hopefully) quickly

@tender cedar I'd think the residents houses would be somewhat far apart from each other with farms, then there'll be a center/street where all the shops line up such as glassblowing, typewriting/newspaper, tavern, blacksmith etc :) lots of dirt roads and barrels, horse barns, and more. I'm kinda going off memory of a project I did in elementary school 😂😅
