@woven drift Reassure yourself, you're not the only one to have this feeling about patterns. But I must confess they're better than path for many reasons, the best one to be able to create some diagonal path (with stone steps for example).

idk if this belongs her but: pro tip: if you don’t want flowers or weeds growing somewhere make a transparent design with on single little green dot. you can use this as a path way and group up flowers together without them growing out.

I presume, before asking for opinions, you should bring a context for what you're trying to do. It is pretty impossible to give a valid judgement without knowing what are your goals.
I mean, it depends on how you want your island to be : very natural, difficult to drag, or more like "accessible", to be free to move in every aeras quickly, etc.
Does your island should respect a specific theme/biome ? Those are things that, I think, should be specify in order to have real opinons. 🤔
