My advice is to think it small chunks, like one of the bigger grids on the map. Design that till you're happy then move around your island clockwise
try and get one zone to flow to the next as opposed to trying to design it first in the map. And be prepared to spend a lot of bells moving houses/inclines/bridges.

Honestly just work with what you have. Trying to blow away everything and starting from scratch is so much work

throwing cliffs everywhere and making everything different levels can make the island more interesting

@woven drift take little bits and peices from islands you see, just know that even though you tear your island down to make a new one, just know it will be better each and every time

If you don't know what to Put in a certain area, make it smaller... Also... Don't make everything symmetrical. It looks elegant but has no personality. If you encounter a problem, work around it...
