I went through the list of villagers, and for my Zelda themed Island, I picked my favorites that fit the theme best. And here it is!

Might replace Lucky with Bea, but dang Lucky is adorable.
And if Epona and Wolf link become options for villagers, then the bottom two will be replaced with them

Kicking out Mathilda and Quinn will be hard. They've been on my island for so long, look so nice, and I don't have amiibo cards of them.

My entrance is unique, and I'm struggling very badly to make a slanted bridge towards it. My airport and Resident Services are pretty much lined up and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make it look natural, while preserving the forestcore and I guess cottagecore vibe. (It seems to be far out, too.)

just pretend it's not there and go about your layout, trust me it somehow works

you can also never go wrong with like a roundabout that breaks into multiple paths separated by cliffs

i feel that could work real well

so yoi place like 2-3 of those diagonally/in a triangle and then make a regular straight path with the ingame path, or maybe try circular pathing

like yk place 2x2 squares of the ingame path, round em up to make the placement seem more natural and when you find the point where the path should go straight just place it straight and round up only the ends of the path if it makes sense

Okay I had an insane burst of inspiration.

See the left side of my island?

Originally I wasn’t going to do much with it. I was originally planning to make it into a forestry area and such just like the right side of it but as I’ve been developing it on and off as of late, something was tugging at me to make this strictly my ‘space’ away from the island… so I put full focus on that.

Prepping paths from the left bridge to my house but as I was working on it, out of nowhere my brain: ‘Soooo Rose… why not we make our entire left side of the island dedicated to the homes of EVERYONE on the island? Not just you? Whilst the entire right side of your island could be dedicated to the forest angle you want to do so badly. After all… the campsite is already there.’ And while I was hesitant because this wasn’t at all what I wanted nor planned… but at the same time, the idea appealed to me…

In turn… I got straight to work fixing my rivers to have more room for my villagers, laying out these squares for my villagers’ houses…

then just as I was finished…

“Hey… why not prepare a mini garden here?”

And I loved the idea so much I did that too 😅
By time I was mostly done... cue me seeing it is 2:55AM. Sooo yeah. I went into sudden burst of inspiration at 2AM-3AM...

Depends on what you like, really. I like having a little “downtown” with the shops by the plaza, but you have a nice cliff structure if you wanted to do like, a multi level thing in the top left.

Btw I don’t have a picture sadly right this minute as I’m settling in for the night buuut… I took sometime out of my night before bed just now to do one last ACNH check in and just recently I gotten the wooden sign DIY and at first I thought to make a new ‘No Running’ sign at first for a field of flowers I made but since I made a path, there was no point to it.

I figured to save it in case but as I was thinking about it… I knew what I wanted the sign to be and where to put it.

I placed it at my entrance next to the dog plush and I customized the sign to be white as if it’s a grave and put down ‘RIP Mason.’ In yellow. Surrounded by yellow hearts and in a red background.

AKA made my own semi memorial area right at the entrance where the pup is, where the retro bus stop where lies a puppy plush. A apple tree and across from there. Airport.

Mason btw is my old doggo that passed away years ago now.

if you think you can do all the terraforming you could also keep the front like a large 2nd tier area and then transition to base level from the plaza laterals or the back or something

Why are some of them not growing??

• Insufficient Space: A sapling needs a clear 3x3 space around it to grow.

• Overcrowding: They can't grow if there are more than 12 or so in a 9x9 area.

• Invalid Tiles: They will not grow right next to cliffs, water, beaches, bridges, inclines, or buildings.

The Solution: Move some trees to a less crowded area to fully grow, then move them back to wherever you want.

I’ll admit it doesn’t help because I’m moreso a visual person but tbh if some don’t grow in totally I don’t mind because it feels more realistic that way. But if I feel like switching them elsewhere I will.

Decided to completely redo my island entrance into something steampunk-based and I’m real happy with the result

I remember I found an incredible detailed tutorial on YT but ai can't find it now

But basically is a 3x3 grid in which the tree is in the center. For it to grow every other space around it has to be empty.

Also what really makes them look natural is playing around with stunting some of them.

All you have to do is wait until they are either medium or large size (2nd or 3rd day after planting) and plant a fruit next to them to stop them from growing further.

Personally when I made my island I was originally gonna make an entire forest from top to bottom but overtime after I made my own little secluded area where my house was, I decided to fully embrace the entire left side of my island would be villager based. The middle being where my shops were and the far right being my forest.

Depends on what you want, if its not overlaying entirely over it and is sinking into the actual path its because your design has a transparent part. Custom designs that are fully filled in will completly cover the ground under them and not sink into the in game path area

Well that depends on what you're looking for :
-do you want to resident service to be easily accessible and in view of the entrance
Or
-do you want to hide it from view and create the illusion that it's far away from the entrance.
For the first you can create a sort of road that take you there with decorations and trees reminding of a city
For the second you can terraform a cliff to the left of your entrance and "force" the view and path to take you to the right, creating a loop around

Horrible gaming has a few I think on Youtube. I personally just drew some shapes on a piece of paper and figured out what was pleasing to my eyes (if you care about the map anyway) I personally like things on the 2nd level mainly. I then did the same for rivers to figure out what I wanted shape wise. After that, my non negotiables like wanting nooks close to the airport or my house on the right. Lastly, I figured out the general flow of villager hours. Again all personal preference but I find I'm way happier with what I make when I get most of the terraforming planned out. Then I figure out where I want other things to go (like parks, farm, etc) by walking around my island and seeing where I get inspo.

Hopefully all that helps a little if you are a planner like me 😄

Other tip is to just start with the entrance if you aren't sure. That sets the mood for the island really well and is fairly easy to remake until you are happy.

6. scroll the wiki for a list of all ingame furniture (might give you some ideas!)

Trying to decide if I should flatten my All-seasons island.

My reason is mainly because of parts of my island not matching up. Kinda like puzzle pieces from different puzzles. Originally, when I first made my island, I was mostly concerned with farming as much as possible and having space to hold events. Now that I've settled into a chiller gameplay mode, I want to bring back personalized builds and less commercial play.

I'm not entirely sure if I should just flatten everything and start over, or keep some things and rework others.

My forever island is themeless lol I just went with a typical theme because I'm the type who wants to play the game casually. Ofc you still need some areas like a fruit orchard or a little park and to me it feels much livelier having to play around with random area builds as you wish. I still appreciate anyone who's done a themed island but the sad part is to reset and create a new island once it's "completed" as it feels more repetitive and slower the more you have to endure the story prologue all over again.

Keep in mind that 150 weeds is the limit of fully grown weeds so if you want them to be tall in a specific area, pick the ones you dont need then time travel super far and then go back to your desired time!

should i just make it 2 tile and off centre or keep it 3 and have them connect?

Is there a way to see what an item is called within room sketch? Apparently I designed my Park Cafe ages ago, and it's still sitting in my room sketch. but it's been long enough that I don't remember what all the items are called. The ones that are customizable I can just go into the customizing options and it will tell me the name, but for other items that don't have color variations I'm not sure how to check the name... I don't really want to post a screenshot here, because I'd rather wait until I've made it an actual room and not just a sketch.

So 7 rows of each color of windflowers and lilies, and 6 rows of every color of roses and hyacinths. And it's gonna rotate, so the top left will have the lilies, the top right hyacinths, bottom right windflowers, and bottom left roses

Help me decide which house to move 😅 The island’s semi-forest core, so I want good space for camping activities near the campsite (red square), but I think I can fit one of the houses in the pink circle still, and it would improve "neighborhood" flow too.

Should I: 1, free up more space for farming, 2, move a house by the river for space for more community areas 3, keep the original layout and just make the lake bigger?
