I have a question.

I’m trying to redesign my residential area and my island a bit and my themes are Regal or Elegant Citycore/ Natural city core look. I’m really inspired by those neat, symmetrical layouts with hedges, white flowers, fountains, and structured paths. I’m using a lot of light tones, raised levels, and city-style details like streetlights and brick/stone walkways — kind of like a classy garden city vibe. I want it to feel formal but still cozy.

Do y’all have ideas on how I can achieve the look? This is what I have so far and the other pic is the inspiration for the residential area.

i would use the custom paths!! since you’re using a lot of lighter tones, they’re definitely less harsh than the game provided ones. but for a more symmetrical aspect the game provided ones might be more ideal. love it so far!!!!

I’m terrible with that kind of stuff. With my island, I’ve gone through phases of motivation of wanting to change it and giving up. I started by making the entrance to my island look nice with terraforming, then did the secret beach area, then it took me over a year to then do my house area and the whole of the back of my island

I’m about half way through the whole island and am running out of ideas

But I’d recommend just going to a bunch of dream addresses for inspiration

Since you’re taking the natural island approach, I would recommend using a variety of stone paths and natural light wood paths spread around the beaches.

To add to the natural feeling the wheat item (light green & green variation) and spreading wild weeds in the area would add a touch of greenery to sand. As for flowers You can also use different rock items to add shape on the shores. In my opinion white and orange Hyacinths along with lily of the valley would give it a colorful touch (assuming your island is based in the fall season based off the photos). Larger trees and plants on the island should mostly be furniture item ones tbh cuz the palm trees look ugly imo.

Other furniture you can use to make the beaches unique are the use of man made structures using the shed, storefront, stall, and a mix of other wooden like structures. Use of the pirate barrels , wood boxes , wooden steak, along with other natural beach themed items would look nice too.

Sorry for the poor screenshot. Where would you put more bridges and ramps (right now there are no ramps)? So far I'm relying on vines from the DLC. At the two red dots Id like to place bridges but I can't because I dont have terraforming yet. Id like to perhaps move one of the houses to that small red dot neared the center of the map. And the houses on both bottom left and right edges will probably be moved at some point. Im unsure if there's any building left, to build, if not ill use that big empty square section as an orchard/farm 🙂 I'm new...

I want my island to feel natural so I don't want to do a lot of manual labor on the rivers and cliffs if possible to preserve that feeling. And for now I like the position of my house a lot, maybe not my neighbor on that right chunk of the island now that I think of it...

Im planning to make a gyroid forest/pathway thing on my island, leading up to the secret beach

At the end of the path there im gonna add an incline straight to the level above, but im not sure what to do from there..

For now i tried some stuff on HHP to plan it, but i need some help with making it flow with the surrounding areas on my island (which is completely flat still 😒)

The little path to the left where the signpost is is where my graveyard is going to be on the level above as well and then back down again

TLDR: Would anyone have some ideas on how to make areas a bit more seamless or how to continue it from the incline, especially being at the back where things are crammed?

Your path doesnt need to be directly straight to your house unless thats something youd especially like, so i think making a winding path would be cool! You can split it up by layering some space fillers around then make the path go directly there, if that makes sense. Maybe a fountain, some benches, a garden etc!

for the right section, there's not enough walkable space due to the river. I can make the river smaller but I always try to have a source for my rivers in the forms of ponds or lakes. I think I just made it too small

Also, i love putting picnics infront of my neighbourhoods like a little community lunch teaparty thing!! Try using some mismatched tables going 2x6, different heights and different stools/chairs as well, add whatever you like to the table setting, and surround it with some columns, cactus, flowers etc! If youre interested in that idea ill show you a similar ive made, ill put some sand under it as well if that helps!

Oh, also, one thing that I didn't show in a screenshot, there's a graveyard on my island, and there's a little dirt road that crosses over a river to a small island, and on that island is an isolated grave with gold roses in front of it, which was made in memory of my late grandfather, who had died recently by the time I had gotten back into the game

My island isn't the prettiest, but I love it anyway

This is a good mindset to have, although it's clear from your screenshots and what you've said that your island is pretty as well! There's always going to be a lot of beauty and diversity out there, and it can be incredibly easy, at a glance, to compare our islands to others... forgetting that it takes a great deal of work, both success and failure, to achieve what some people do. We often don't see that journey, just as they don't see the hard work that goes into your own. I say embrace what you've done; only you can know that story, and if you wish to improve there's nothing that's impossible to you - just remember that your own enjoyment is the important part! I'd love to see more screenshots of what you described when you have the chance 🩷

Its hard to tell what you have built in the top of the island, but I'd recommend the bridge in the ruins of conflict to tapu koko's shrine or mele mele meadow with wheat or the sunflower crown I forgot the name. If you already have these built, you could do poke pelago with a cute island in the middle

Reworking the space directly to the left of the airport. Wanted like a fishing dock type space or something along those lines. We’re gonna be moving the shop to this space (hence the roped off area) which I feel will really tie things together. The space with the drying racks is my favorite detail :3

I have an idea! The wall where the ladder is, if you flatten that out, I'm pretty sure you would be able to put an incline there. And you can cover some parts of it with trees and bushes if you want

if that doesn't work, you could also put it at the corner of the path by the fences

You could have three of each tree, having a 2 square gap between them. That gives you room to walk around and you can even add things like a bench in between the trees with the two square gap

I’ve added a phone box in between one and a little drinking fountain/bird feeder. I think it would be cute if you like fenced off around the area too. You could always do a big fountain in the middle and then the trees around it sort of thing. The drawing is horrific but: Orange=Fence, blue=fountain, green=trees, white=path.
