My island is all about rainbows. Lots of brightly patterned rainbow paths, small and big rainbow flower patches, lots of floor lights in rainbow order, zodiac star fragments also end up being rainbow, Festivale items come in rainbow, various other lights (photo studio lights, neon signs, stadium lights, etc.) can all be rainbow-fied, nova lights/star clocks/crescent moons can be made rainbow, as can a lot of the frozen items, Dreamy items also often come in rainbow varieties. I have pics I can DM you if you're interested or if timezones allow you can come see my island some time (it's still a painstaking work in progress to get everything right so I haven't set up a Dream Address yet)

i think the best thing to do is probably draw out the main water locations for your island, and then just get right to teraforming, building a 'cliff' all over the majority of your island so most of your build is up high & you look down at water areas like in that first img !

Bit of a late reply but your suggestion inspired an idea in me. Because it's adjacent to my cemetery, I make the plot the ruins of an old home? Like the last remnant of a colonial past. The question is if I turned it into ruins, would an outline of a home do or should there be remnants of rooms and furniture?

Yeah I want to make one house a shop so I have a tree then to the right the stacked crate, then one single bottle crate centered between the tree and stacked crates, but I'm struggling to figure out what items I want on top and if I should put anything other than a flower in front of that setup :D. The house is close-ish to the beach so the fish items might be an option

You could use that bottle item. Decorative bottles, that’s what I put on top of my crates to make it seem like a shipment of new orders came in with cardboard boxes surrounding it

What theme are you doing? Your entrance could work for a citycore type of island. You could download a road code and use trees, flowers, bushes, fences to decorate. Since you don’t have plenty of space, it would be more on the simple side of things. If you don’t mind that. @jagged tulip

It dipends, for me it was helpful clear everything off first and than terraform, but I know others who modified what they had and it turned out great. I think that if you have already a plan is better to clear everything and restart but if you want to be inspired by what you already have is better to terraform what you already have

There is a website that helps you plan out your island layout (u probably know that). I usually plan out where all the buildings go. Then i start terraforming and placing roads and trees and then i decorate in sections. I usually start with the entrance and resident services, then houses and then everything else. But honestly i have never finished decorating my beach because i always have to plant flowers there.

No you don't. You can get a lot of designs from able sisters (just talk to the quiet one everyday for like 2 weeks? After a few days she'llgive you custom designs). Also pinterest is your bestie for custom designs made by other creators. You can get items by cataloging them from other players as well. You can order them via nook shopping (is that name right?)

if you're stuck, pinterest is a great way to get ideas, and there are some acnh youtubers who make cute videos touring dream addresses or their own builds. i think there's also a site devoted to "plotting" out the terraforming on your island before you do it in-game, as well.

but don't get too overwhelmed! i know there was a lot of burnout back in 2020 when peoples islands weren't ""as good"" as the pinterest images or twitter threads. just do what makes you happy and go at your own pace

You can totally leave your island as it is terraforming wise. I think having a natural island is the easiest in the beginning. Citycore idlands or something similar requires a lot of items, desings, money and time. Try to collect a few materials and diys first and maybe try something low key at first?

Some ideas;
If it's abandoned, there's probably a lot of rust on things. Barbed wire and corrugated iron fences work well for that. Also candles, the atmosphere the light creates works wonders.

Maybe barrels and old metal containers would be scattered around, piles of leaves, etc

So my museum area is kinda empty. I've got a little park behind and on the right side of the building but the front looks kinda boring.
I'm trying to give my island a dark/brown color palette and I'm decorating it for autumn and Halloween !

@still tundra Apologies I don't have an image but what I did was make some seating on the edges facing the center in front of the museum and then did a cute 3x3 (give or take a .5 space) in the center. So what I used was a festivale garland with a lighted display stand (1 space) centered in front, creepy skeleton on top, pumpkin tower to the right, spooky lantern set in front (so the pumpkin is on the left), pumpkin lantern on that, and then a spooky scarecrow on the left. On non seasonal times, I do a pottery art display in the center

Need advice. Being a tourist town, my Island has 4 main beachfronts. One Private, Serena Beach (the all white furniture), one rental, Pascal Beach (the one with the tent), and two public, Wendall & Chip Beaches. If you look up Kyuubi Crossing on YouTube, they have a TON of island walk throughs for inspiration. For forestry, i like to mix different sized trees.

It makes the area look filled in without looking busy, and gives you more opportunities to use furniture items well

For me, it depends on what theme I’m doing. If I’m doing a citycore island, I don’t mind having my villager houses next to one another. For natural islands, having them separated seems to be best. Also, some people want their villagers to wonder around different parts of their island. If you don’t scatter them out then they’ll just stay in one area I believe.

I also have an orchard, a campsite area, a mini library, a mini gym, a picnic area, a flower garden, a plaza, a park, a soccer field, a basketball area, a mini greenhouse space, and an entertainment centre.. You can see that I was struggling to think of a design idea for this space.. Lol... But I think I will use @barren oak idea to put a pond there and very small observatory area there.. Funny that sounds a little like my island - I went international and American.  I have an Italian village with ruins. We have Jamaica, Egyptian, France, Japan (complete with nuclear fallout and Godzilla, a flower shop, tailor, library, Starbucks with outdoor seating, old time soda fountain/pharmacy, farm market, carpenter/custom builder, picnic area and of course the campsite. I just started taking down the wedding theme for halloween.  I usually reserve the "fly over" area for holiday decorating...

You know that I got the custom island divided to three mini island.. I dedicated the whole right mini island for my japanese homestay.. Because usually I saw creative people with awesome one theme island.. And I thought man my island is too cluttered with so many themes.. Lol... Now I read your design ideas, I might steal some.. I like multi-themes as opposed to the same theme throughout  the whole island.  I gave all my residents roles (I even gave the outfits to match but that never lasts 🙂 )  They are all cats and Raymond is my librarian and so on - they each have a love interest and photo in their house...  I have 2 resident houses that are part of the wealthy Japanese area.  One is more traditional but the other more modern with an elaborate Japanese bath.  I just posted my new Sally costume to get me in the mood for decorating for Halloween... It has been expensive! It took a bunch of volcanoes and over 60 termite mounds to make the Italian Village and I have over 100 lucky cats for a LC scavenger hunt - I call this my billion dollar island!  If you ever want to visit or I can dig out my DA, I think it's still set to Easter though.  I haven't played all summer, just starting back up again... I thought about bringing Lucky back and making a haunted mansion...

Just a piece of advice, terraforming at first can be a little intimidating and it will definitely take some time for an individual to learn. So just take it easy and start small. Try to come up with an island theme. Is there something specific that you absolutely love and would like it to be the theme of your island? As you mentioned, your inspiration is from Kyuubi Crossing. Why not pick out a small area in your island and start there? Say for example, you can start with your airport entrance. And then just work your way to the areas surrounding it.

That looks really good, but it’s no longer a rock garden, it’s supposed to be a garden of rocks, so the rocks should stand out, but you’ve covered them up with statues and pillars, i had to really focus to spot the rocks maybe expand it a lil bit more? That way the rocks would stand out more
