from my experience the best way to (mostly) preserve the original palette is to lower the sprite resolution because of the limited palette the game offers to each custom design

That’s one of the patterns you can get from the Able Sisters, it isn’t a code. It’s just a wooden stool DIY that’s been customized with that pattern

if you’re talking about how some designs fit to the smaller shape of the in game path, the only way to do it is to use a design that has no transparent pixels. if it’s fully coloured it’ll cover the entire square, but if there’s even one transparent pixel in the design, it’ll conform to the in game path you’re placing it over. that’s why you’ll sometimes see versions of designs with and without a single pixel looking empty
