Okay, first thing you do is go to the home screen of the game and press "-"
Tom Nook will ask you if you have set up your Nintendo switch online app
After you have the app hooked up, you can go in the app and scan the QR code you want.

(You need the "pro qr codes" ticket bought from the Nook Miles terminal to access the pro qr codes - 800 nook miles)
Then go in the Nook Phone, go to the QR codes, and press the "download" button and it will download the code you scanned on your phone to your game!!

Maybe you need to convert the QR codes to the correct format using "https://acpatterns.com/"
Cause I think it rejects QR code images made using this program https://www.thulinma.com/acnl/
But as soon as I imported them to https://acpatterns.com/ and use the QR codes generated by that website, suddenly they were detected by the Nintendo Switch Online app
And no "The QR code is not in the correct format" error appears.
But, some of my QR code images were somehow broken and I had to recreate my images...
Fortunately they were Pokémon sprites so it was easy to fix.

You have to download the Nintendo Switch Online app and on the title screen before you load your character you go to options and Tom nook will help you set up NookLink and then you reload the app and it will give you a companion like app

Well, I hope this is an okay place to ask because I have been running into a problem and only need the input of people who care about patterns and clothing the way that I do.
Has anyone encountered the same issue that I have? I am a huge fan of designing intricate clothes using patterns and did a ton back in ACNL. I used to do a bunch of long sleeve dress patterns so that I could incorporate skirts with all sorts of cardigans, tube tops, etc. I have used the QR codes to transfer them over to ACNH. However, when trying to make brand new patterns, that style of dress doesnt exist anymore, despite clearly being in the game when using ported designs.
Let me give an example:

Nope, because the coat has like, a "zipper" thing that persists regardless of colors used, and doesnt have a flared bottom
In the image above, you see those kimono? The long sleeves with a flared skirt bottom. That's how it was in ACNL and that exists IF you use ported designs from ACNL
but we only get short-sleeved options in ACNH

You use your IRL phone, linked with NookLink (Using the official nintendo switch app thing) to your nintendo account and therefore the game on the switch
and scan QR codes using your camera just like you did with the 3ds
then you go in game and press + to "download" the currently scanned one off your phone
You can only scan one at a time, and download the currently active scan

@thin gorge you can’t really design pants, but I do believe there’s something similar to that cardigan in which allows you to show your shirt and you still have the outer layer on
