Hello all. Way back when this game was just out I bought it because my Mother and Sister wanted me to make an Island and visit their Island. Since I live a not insignificant distance away I thought that sounded fun. Well, for whatever reason that never worked out. Their Internet wasn't good enough for me to even visit them.

I played the game a bit myself and remember basics at best. I remember there was a museum or something to donate to and stuff like that. Now, my Mother and Sister they went nuts with the game and did all sorts of stuff to speed up progress and basically had Islands that were pretty much done and then being changed and doing things to them over time and that for sure wasn't for me. I don't look down on that practice or anything, just for me I want a game to let me build over time and relax. For them this game was basically a program that let them design an island nearly instantly.

So I have a Switch 2 now and picked up the game. I messed around with it for a minute and what I remember now after doing that is I don't like the rivers going both down at the beach and also I thought my Island name was going to say "What I called it" Island, but it didn't add that so since I am just starting I am going to delete my save and start over.

What I want to know is, if I play this without doing what my family did, what sort of progress am I looking to make on a day by day basis? What will I log in and do each day before there is nothing to do? I assume I will run out since I won't be doing what they did?
Also, how long can I expect to have what you guys consider a mostly complete island and then just going with the flow and discovering new stuff? I assume at least 1 year to see all the seasons and get the items only had that way but more maybe?

I don't think you'd run out of stuff to do at all! But it depends on you and what you don't want to do.

I guess you would talk to all your villagers to gain the friendship points, and if able, gift them something.
Go to Harv's Island once you have that and all the pop up stores unlocked, get your daily fortune (it can change the game for that day a little)
Collect Art for the museum, as well as fossils, fish and bugs. Check the stores to see if they have anything you'd like.
Collect the bottles from the beach to get the DIY's, craft, build a bridge or incline, or simply decorate your island, etc

And even after doing all that, there are so many Nook Mile Achievements to give you titles, and even just daily Nook Mile + and you will most likely not have to time travel at all. It's almost impossible to run out of stuff to do.

But like I said, it depends more so on if YOU run out of stuff that you WANT to do.

Correct! If you have already once caught that critter, you can open the encyclopedia in the game and it will tell you which months and which times they are available.

If you are trying to catch a critter that you have not yet caught, and you have no idea what they are or when they are available, you can check online wikis.

You can do that, though it might be tricky! No such thing as certain weekdays if I'm correct but some fish are veeery rare. You might "give up" thinking that you have already caught every fish that is available at that time. But there are some that are either very rare, only available in specific locations (such as the pier or clifftop so only on the second level) and specific times. But of course you don't have to look at wikis if you don't want to!

They have really nice angled and pointed tweezers for that. Best to get a pair if you do that. I once was adjusting a PS2 laser and accidentally broke the ribbon cable and had to replace it. The tool makes ribbon cables really easy.
