did anyone here upgrade from the regular switch to the oled version? i'm thinking of buying one with the money i've saved and then selling my current switch, but idk exactly if it's super worth it or just a small upgrade
tho my current switch is 9 years old and it does have a few issues as it's been used through and through, i'm still not 100% sure about it the switch 2 is out of the discussion cause it's far too expensive and doesnt have any exclusive titles and all that, and the digital games are expensive as hell

i think it's worth mentioning that i'm primarily a handeld gamer, i don't dock my switch often except if i'm playing a multiplayer game w my family/friends

i'd say restart, cleaning up the island and flattening and all that can be a lot and esp if you don't know where to start it can make you burn out again instead of enjoying the process plus that it's so fun to experience the beggining of the game again and play at your own pace

As a Switch 2 owner, I think waiting might be your best bet. I'd wait until you save up a little more and then get the Switch 2. There aren't many games now, but who knows what that'll look like a few months from now. The Switch 2 can play the Switch games anyway, so in terms of gaming versatility getting an OLED Switch and then having your favorite game come out on Switch 2 would be a loss at that time. You'd just be wanting to update anyway. If your current Switch is hurting too much to play it well, I could see the push to get another Switch. If it's a simple replacement of the joycons, handheld gaming, Switch Joycons are cheap now and cheaper than a Switch or NS2 console overall, which let's you save up some more.

IMO: I'd wait, get new controllers if needed.

the issue is that over the years my battery life dropped a LOT, allowing me to play about 5 hours max on handheld, and that's for less demanding games, and i also have quite a lot of dust accumulated in the vents, which i did try cleaning but i can't manage to get rid of it all so my switch just overheats a lot and performance also drops significantly🫩 i'd buy a new switch anyways, just dunno if i should stick to the regular or buy the oled
i'm a bit against the ns2 cause i'm quite anti consumerism aswell and don't see the point in getting this huge upgrade knowing i don't play super demanding games nor am i a fan of many franchises, just a few select switch exclusive games that are like comfort ones and all that so it'd be quite the unnecessary extra purchase

The battery life is something I can understand. And if it's your views on the purchase, anti-consumerism, then that's all your choice and I won't try to convince you there.

As for the battery, though, you could always look for something externally and bring it on the go or see what it would cost for Nintendo to do the repair. You'd have to send your Switch out, but I would imagine that during a battery reinstalling process that they would blast some air in there; thus cleaning your device a bit more from the angles you can't fully reach. They've been good to me with repairs on my Wii.

But ngl, for demanding games on handheld with the battery alone, you'll burn through battery.

Recording gameplay on pc is easy. OBS is a free streaming app, but you can also record with it. If you want to record from consoles, you'll need a so called capture card for the connection between console and pc
