There are no special requirements to use them. Several can be found on Twitch or YouTube

You just fly to the island, fill your pockets and leave.

Battle Mode used to be elimination based

aka stocked.

Once your balloons were gone, that was it, you were out, no respawning

That was the whole point of battle mode

to be the last one standing

but for some reason, they changed it in Mario Kart 7 and 8 to be based on points and got rid of the elimination element

Mario Kart World is bringing it back and is mixing the two together
