RALLY STANCE

#

So much room for gaptivities

#

No longer will my soul hurt when going over a speed bump

pearl oak
#

Those quickjacks?

drifting forge
#

Ye

pearl oak
#

How’d you rate them? I’ve been eyeing them up for years and never actually gone for them as I’ve not known anyone who’s used them

drifting forge
#

Next best thing if you dont have the space for a 2-post

#

They're great. Plenty of space underneath even for a fat fuck like me and very stable

pearl oak
#

Nice nice, might be something I look into then. Don’t need them for the mini as I can lift the back end by hand but always felt my other jacks were a little bit lacking and a pain to get setup

drifting forge
#

We got them from costco, think it was about a grand but that was like 5 years ago

pearl oak
#

Yeah I’m finding them for like £1200 online these days

#

Not valid for Costco membership unfortunately

#

Plus I doubt they still do em

drifting forge
round skiff
#

About time

drifting forge
#

need to actually wire up the spotlights tho

round skiff
#

I'll take your covers, can't run foglights with the FMIC

drifting forge
#

what covers

#

i've never had covers lol

round skiff
#

Those Hella ones

drifting forge
#

you need foglights to put those covers on them you silly billy

round skiff
#

Yeah with that attitude

#

Just gonna make a bracket for them

round skiff
#

Is this what you were looking for?

#

There's another, bit more expensive

#

Okay there's actually plenty of the facelift accordion boots in SF Foresters

drifting forge
#

oh I got one by accident ages ago

round skiff
#

Ah

drifting forge
#

bought a spare forester armrest to have a backup lid and rear cupholder, and it came with the accordion boot and surround as well

round skiff
#

Nice

#

What are you currently aiming to do with the car?

drifting forge
#

just enjoy it

round skiff
#

Impossible

drifting forge
#

drive it around, go on roadtrips, go camping

pearl oak
#

when half your camping stuff is spare oil and spare parts /s

drifting forge
#

going camping next weekend again, then at the start of august again for USC then driving it to romania and back again, then camping at silverstone again for TRAX

pearl oak
#

I am sad I cant make it to TRAX anymore

round skiff
#

You still care for the MAF delete? We have a month get the car ready and running again so that's our timeframe

drifting forge
#

yeah I still want that adapter bracket

drifting forge
#

Well fml. Crossover is leaking again it seems... Thats dried up coolant...

#

think I might need to get an aluminium pipe fabricated and welded onto the cast piece because it's definitely the joint where the metal one meets the ally one that is leaking

#

who tf at subaru thought push fit metal into ally is a good idea, they've got different heat expansion properties ffs

drifting forge
#

well shit

#

gonna try and helicoil that thread...

#

but if that doesn't work... well

#

time to max out my credit card again

pearl oak
#

Did the brake break breaking other brake bits?

round skiff
drifting forge
#

now i wait

round skiff
#

No local shops?

#

Also you did buy the fine pitch M12, right?

drifting forge
round skiff
#

Good, good

drifting forge
round skiff
#

Japs pulling a funny one having STD up to M8 and then fine from that point on

drifting forge
#

welp, helicoils arrived, cars back together, brake wobble is gone... for now...

#

still don't know WHAT was causing it to start doing the wobble

-could have been the coilovers
-could have been the weakened mounting thread on this one caliper
-could have been buildup of paint on the mating surface of the carrier to the calipers that i've now cleaned off

who knows, it's been doing this for two years at this point where when its got a fresh set of brake discs it's all fine, but then within 2-3k miles it'll start shaking like the discs are warped, and no, i'm not heavy on the brakes, nor do I stand on them at stop lights

odometer is at 124.5k now, lets see how long it takes until/(hopefully)if it starts wobbling again.

prime saddle
#

@round skiff do you have a windsheild scuttle panel for lhd?

round skiff
prime saddle
#

yeah

round skiff
#

Probably

prime saddle
#

customer in uk needs one and for it shipped £387

#

if you do ill let him know and i can pay you for it if he wants to go pick it up

drifting forge
#

be a bit of a trek to go to finland to pick up a scuttle panel

round skiff
#

It's nice here this time of the year

drifting forge
pearl oak
#

How is your driveway so clean lol

#

Mine gets covered in oil n crap

drifting forge
#

Thats not my driveway

#

And its not my car

#

And my driveway is also full of oil n crap lol

pearl oak
#

Yeah it’s not, it took me until you said it wasn’t to realise that’s not your car at all lol

#

I’m having a dumb brain time

drifting forge
#

The paint on that is too shiny and its all one single shade of blue. Cant be mine

pearl oak
#

You could polish and wax yours to that shine though

#

Also the lights are the big difference

drifting forge
#

nah, mine needs a full respray, it was too wet at oulton park for you to be able to see the full horror of how bad my paint is

pearl oak
#

Yeah, it was very damp. This year was quite dry and nice tbh

drifting forge
#

I completely missed that it was on, until some friends posted pictures that it's happening on the day of...

pearl oak
#

Yeah my car club is very on it as we one of the larger groups that turns upto the north tunerfest

drifting forge
#

anyway we're prepping for USC this weekend now

pearl oak
#

Yeah I can’t attend anything this month unfortunately, but I’m getting rid of the Lexus so my gfs car is the only show worthy attendee anyway

drifting forge
#

sadly I'm no longer allowed to get absolutely plastered anymore on account of diverticular bleeding so I'll have to be mostly sober the whole weekend

pearl oak
#

That is unfortunate, alcohol is fun

drifting forge
#

then sell me the barchetta once it's broken down for 1/3rd the price

#

all this nice weather making me want a barchetta even more

pearl oak
#

Yeah nah I have plans to import a s660 from Japan so that’s my aim

#

Bit more expensive than a barchetta though

#

I do keep looking at the fiat miatas too…

drifting forge
pearl oak
#

Yeah I’ve missed all the ones in the uk whenever I’ve been anywhere

#

But it’s my achievable dream car and my gf said yes to it so I’m taking full advantage

drifting forge
#

i do prefer the look of the fiata over the regular ND, to the annoyance of my friend who is a bit of an ND supremacist

#

tho his V8 swap should be done in time for TRAX

pearl oak
#

Yeah the fiata, I like that name, is much nicer looking but it’s almost exclusively driven by old people unfortunately

pearl oak
drifting forge
#

we got the early bird special tickets too, the ones with the cleaning kit gift,

pearl oak
#

Yeah that’s the one I got

drifting forge
#

gonna be tight for me.
2-4 aug USC,

5th of august take the roof tent off, put the roof box on, unpack the car from USC, pack it for romania

6th of august at 8am i need to be in harwich for the ferry to the netherlands then 2 days of driving to romania

then on the way back got the ferry to the UK on the 29th

30th is unpack from romania, pack for TRAX, swap box for tent again

31st set off for TRAX

pearl oak
#

Damn that’s a busy month, I thought I had a busy month but not that bad

drifting forge
#

he's got a sunroof! now I'm jealous!

pearl oak
#

I love sunroofs on cars, I miss it now I don’t have one in my Lexus replacement

#

The legacy had one and I used it all the time

drifting forge
#

i wish I had a sunroof on mine. can't even get an aftermarket one fitted anymore either since ASC went bust and webasto stopped making their sunroofs

pearl oak
#

Sad times, I’m gonna have to try and get one of those fabric sunroofs for my mini when I get that sorted

#

You could do a roof transplant if you wanted a real project. I’m sure you could find a roof with a sunroof at a scrappers

drifting forge
#

nah if I ever do a roof transfer it's gonna be a carbon fibre one to get rid of all roof rust worries

pearl oak
#

I get that, rust free car would be the real win

drifting forge
#

i want to go stick my arm into the rear arches to feel up the strut towers SO BADLY

pearl oak
#

Drive your car round there and go say hi

drifting forge
#

Me? initiate interaction? WITH A STRANGER?

never.

pearl oak
#

You came and spoke to me at tunerfest!

drifting forge
#

yeah after we've been speaking on here for a year+, not a full-on stranger

pearl oak
#

Touché

drifting forge
pearl oak
#

Dayan that thing is a need

drifting forge
prime saddle
#

adi is this ur roommates car that i saw on fb reels? i cant remember what his is

drifting forge
prime saddle
#

oh i thought his was an na

#

looks like the same person if i remember right but that picture was over a year ago

drifting forge
#

Altho, i'm pretty sure I've met one of the previous owners of that anime na

prime saddle
#

ive met alot of anime n/a guys.

#

i saw in gatlinburg some guy in an anime gc8 sedan, following me on 287 towards cades on 34

drifting forge
#

Finally wired up the antilag switch

pearl oak
#

Now we need the mandatory anti lag video

round skiff
#

Don't drop a valve

drifting forge
#

The jinglish sticker on the rad is to cover peeling paint

drifting forge
#

car packed for cross-continent roadtrip again

drifting forge
#

Hot goodies arrived

#

OE cubby gauge pod, extended forester armrest lid, kartboy foglamp brackets

drifting forge
#

Extended armrest installed. need to paint it to match when I get back to the UK. Still deciding if the better poature for my left shoulder is worth loosing one cupholer tho

round skiff
#

The cupholder is in the worst possible position anyways, it's 10 times better to have a proper armrest

drifting forge
#

yeah but it was the only one that fit my big yeti cup

#

now I'm down to just 4 cupholders

#

how ever will I survive

pearl oak
#

Oh you’re a yeti bro, oh dear lol

drifting forge
#

i've got 3 of the damn thing. smol cup, big cup, and a big friggin bottle

#

tho to it's credit, the shit does keep my stuff warm. Hot coffee in the cups when setting off from austria near villach was still hot like 8 hours later when I was getting close to the romanian border

drifting forge
#

Might have to actually start saving up and looking for a 6-speed... Gearbox is starting to make noises... Theres a faint chattering noise when not in gear thats started to happen

round skiff
#

How tragic

drifting forge
#

i know

#

what a shock

#

gonna check the gearbox oil level tomorrow, maybe its run dry again and needs a fill

round skiff
#

Is it gonna be DCCD time?

#

Knowing you you'd probably have to hunt down the OEM switches if you did

drifting forge
#

nah, dccd is just more things to break

round skiff
#

It's not gonna break but technically it is a service item

drifting forge
#

want a non dccd forester 6-speed for the longer gears (so ive heard)

round skiff
#

I think some UK Imprezas got some good gearing too and a front LSD too

#

Which the Fore is probably lacking

#

But if you happen to go with DCCD, buy the MapDCCD. The Spiider is an absolute theft compared to what it is

round skiff
prime saddle
#

when i did my manual swap

drifting forge
#

mines currently 3.54, cant remember what the longest 6-speed ratio is

prime saddle
#

they are shorter gears but longer final drive

#

i belive its actually a tad bit higher rpm in 6th than the 5spd if i remember correct but that may be for the 3.9

round skiff
#

Front is 3.9 but transfer ratio can be 1 or 1.1 making the rear diff either 3.9 or 3.54

drifting forge
#

120kmh / 75mph is a flat 3000rpm on mine

round skiff
#

What size tires you have?

drifting forge
#

factory spec 205/50r16

round skiff
#

That's factory spec?

drifting forge
#

yep

round skiff
#

Thought it was 205/55

drifting forge
#

nope, its 205/50

round skiff
#

Huh

drifting forge
#

because ofc it is, its an odd size thats like twice the price of 205/55

round skiff
drifting forge
#

fair nuff

round skiff
#

I'm at 3330 rpm at 120kmh, I cri

drifting forge
#

tasty

this is what 2500km with the silencer bung in looks like

#

it somehow lost TPS calibration while sitting for a month since I got home, and wouldnt idle right. one quick recalibration and it looks to be running fine again

#

probably battery drained itself a bit much

round skiff
#

Unlikely dependent on battery voltage, otherwise my ECU would get wiped out every time I turn off the car. Probably just glitched out for some reason

drifting forge
#

different ECUs tho

round skiff
#

Yeah, but I can guarantee none of the available ECUs rely on constant power to save the tune.

#

If it did, motorsport applications just wouldn't work due to kill switch requirements

drifting forge
#

shush and stop making me worry that it might be a bigger problem

#

i want to be completely ignorant until the engine blows

round skiff
drifting forge
#

so much fucking soot in that backbox tho holy fuck

#

antilag not doing anything to help either since that lets a lot of flue goe past and into the exhaust lol

drifting forge
#

Turns out the battery is dead. Barely had 10.5v in it, had to jump start the car and the car struggles to bounce back to idle after revving because the battery voltage drops to like 9v-10v and wants to die

agile jasper
#

That first pic, brother made steelies look good

drifting forge
#

I need to get those steelies refurbed and put some new tires on them actually

agile jasper
#

They are stunning

pearl oak
#

Steelies look good on a proper wrx

#

One that isn’t stupid low and actually looks like it should

drifting forge
#

just ordered new front hub carriers, new bearings, new flanges, new bolts, new backplates...

the red calipers I wanted are out of stock right now so will have to wait a bit for those to come back in stock (i hope) and then get new rotors and pads and hopefully that should finally cure the death brake wobble

drifting forge
#

someone spot me a couple grand pls

round skiff
#

For that price might as well import a donor from a country that doesn't know about salt

drifting forge
#

don't think theres many left of those...

round skiff
#

Gotta get that barn find

drifting forge
#

first wash since the roadtrip back from romania

pearl oak
#

How did it like the whole trip?

#

I forgot to ask

drifting forge
#

doesnt like sitting in traffic waiting at the border in 35C heat

#

but other than that, and the brake wobble thats been plagueing it for years now, it was fine

pearl oak
#

Bent bracket or something?

#

Also I’m guessing the rads and that just struggling?

drifting forge
# pearl oak Bent bracket or something?

no clue. but i'm so done with having to change disks every 3000 miles. its getting new front end everythings. carriers, bearings, flanges, calipers, everything. if that doesnt fix it i don't know anymore

drifting forge
pearl oak
drifting forge
#

definitely fronts

drifting forge
#

new calipers

#

now i'll need to actually put the hubs together, press in the bearings and flanges, all that

round skiff
#

That is mint

drifting forge
#

good news, bad news

#

bad news: subaru alternator is fucked. barely charges 12.3v at idle and under load it actually drops into the 11s

#

good news: costco is selling a 1kg bag of fudge for £5.99

pearl oak
#

If only if fudge could fix an alternator

round skiff
#

Buy a used genuine one if you can't find new, aftermarket are trash

drifting forge
#

gonna risk it for a biscuit with an aftermarket one for now, my luck in buying used is somehow worse than my luck in buying aftermarket

drifting forge
#

New alternator on, it works. Yay

round skiff
#

May it have a long and prosperous life

drifting forge
#

really want to go for a drive now but car is blocked in by other cars

#

but, be fine in time for a rally cars event next weekend

drifting forge
#

missed it by a mile, boooo

drifting forge
#

Another year of yobbery

drifting forge
#

and for the first time in my ownership, it was a legit pass. emissions and all.

pearl oak
#

Woooo magical

drifting forge
#

took the morettes off, went back to the stock headlights, and wired in the hellas finally

pearl oak
#

I was kinda getting used to the other ones, why back to stockies?

drifting forge
#

Frame inside warped, cant aim one of the lights

pearl oak
#

Ahhh

round skiff
#

Something that can get a replacement printed?

drifting forge
#

No clue, dont care for it right now, will fix later. Got bigger woes, at a massive pothole in a roundabout and its thrown my alignment out. Fuck.

round skiff
#

Oh shit. We've just went with tape measure alignment, car goes straight and doesn't eat tires. But there's a good chance something's bent there

drifting forge
#

my back is fucked so I can't crawl under the car to try and do an eyesight alignment on it, going to need to take it to a shop. which costs money. which I don't have cause I've not had any work for the past 3 months...

#

I'm hoping it's just the camber and toe bolts have gone out of position...

round skiff
#

Could be, my alignment is always just "full camber and 0 toe"

drifting forge
#

Still not got the alignment done, but at least gave ot a basic wash today

pearl oak
#

looks 'hella' good

drifting forge
#

Welp, just noticed that me washing the car in the sun has finally made the windscreen crack all the way. Fucking joy.

pearl oak
#

now you have an mot failure 😭

drifting forge
#

fortunately MOT is next year in march, so got some time to source another

#

time for a ricky evans heated windscreen I guess

pearl oak
#

at least you can upgrade

drifting forge
#

need to find clips and trims for the windscreen and the roof trims tho. fuck.

drifting forge
#

Pothole funhole

#

Gave it a snickers

drifting forge
#

also just noticed their system loaded it in as a newage instead of a classic lol. oh well, whatever, angle is angle.

pearl oak
#

Damn it Dan

drifting forge
#

nah dan was cool

#

guess their system just doesn't have older than 2000 shrug

#

the joys of old car ownership

pearl oak
#

That’s disappointing, understandable but disappointing

#

I think I need to do my tracking at some point

drifting forge
pearl oak
#

Oh yeah Subaru uk dealerships suck

#

They don’t care about half of their old cars

drifting forge
#

the parts guy at my local dealership is pretty cool tho, he'll actually try and find parts for me if I we can navigate the diagrams or I can get him direct part numbers and not just go "sorry too old, not in the system" to make me bugger off, but thats about it

pearl oak
#

The dude before my legacy had every year dealership servicing, I called up some place somewhat local to me and they said they could do it but they’d have to charge a surcharge because Subaru uk dont stock the service parts anymore

#

Oh that might be the reason they didn’t want to service my legacy lol if they can’t use the system to get the parts so need to find the numbers manually

drifting forge
#

well for me its more of a "VIN is non-turbo, car is turbo. VIN is 2000 GC8, engine is 2004 WR1 STI"

pearl oak
#

That’s true I forgot it started life as a non turbo

round skiff
#

I doubt those values would've been any different even if it was dialed for GC settings

#

Zero toe and approximately zero camber. Rear camber isn't adjustable anyways

drifting forge
#

yeah... i did buy some eibach rear adjustable camber bolts but never put them on

#

don't even know where they gone now lol

#

probably in the big box of shit i took to romania

round skiff
#

I gotta get some rear camber plates to fit a 225 on my current wheel

drifting forge
#

wish they made rally tires for 16" wheels smh...

#

I want some chunky mud and gravel tyres but nothing available in my size

round skiff
#

Gotta pick up some 15s

drifting forge
#

Soon™

#

(tho probably not that turbo, something smaller)

#

There is an actual reason for me looking at going full race car btw.

  1. I want to do some track days
  2. If I can get an FIA cert, then I can use that to import it to romania as a race car, regardless of engine swap, turbo'd non turbo, rhd, all that bollocks
round skiff
drifting forge
#

Yeah probably just going to go bc racing again, its gonna be track and maybe some hillclimb, not rally

#

All paved roads and stuff

#

Or meisterR's

drifting forge
#

The 'tism badges have finally arrived

pearl oak
#

Lol seems like a lot of effort for the badges but I also kinda want them 😂

drifting forge
#

who wants the strawberry milkshake? power steering pump not pumping any power to the steering no more. fml

pearl oak
#

Brittle hose? Or the system actually just died?

drifting forge
#

gaskets in the pump not gasketing anymore

#

and don't know how much its the gaskets themselves and how much its the pump, because its already been rebuilt once

pearl oak
#

Oooof

drifting forge
#

want to do the electric pump conversion, but would need custom hoses for that and I don't have the money

#

might try to retrofit the later remote reservoir type because you can still get those pumps new

pearl oak
#

Ahh not a fan of the electric power steering personally, like the feeling of the hydraulic, even if mine makes weird noises sometimes

drifting forge
#

and on the blue turd side of things

newage PAS pump, reservoir and lines have arrived last week, but I've not been able to do any work on the car on account of my cat passing away on wednesday and me just being a mess since

also ordered all the windscreen trim , corner locators and clips of amayama, and once they arrive will call my insurance to arrange a new windscreen install under cover

round skiff
#

Sorry for your loss

round skiff
drifting forge
#

anything that costs more than the £100 I paid for the whole thing is more than I can afford right now

round skiff
#

Yeah that won't cover it all but the hose definitely shouldn't be all that expensive

#

Can Link interface with the Volvo CAN pump?

drifting forge
#

looking at american groups, aparently the newage pump setup should just bolt up directly and be plug and play to the GC everything else

round skiff
#

It should yeah

#

For the electric conversion Volvo pump will probably be your best bet

drifting forge
#

zafira pump is literally give it 12V and a ground and it will run

#

no CAN bullshit and ECU faff

round skiff
#

Yeah that'll work, but they're prone to fail and very loud

#

I considered them briefly

round skiff
# drifting forge no CAN bullshit and ECU faff

Someone has already done the work for you. There's a Link tune file for the pump. You can control the amount of assist with it. As for installation, it's 5 wires instead of 3. Constant +12V, ground, +12V IGN, Can H and Can L

drifting forge
#

The link has one single can output and I'd rather find a better use for it than a PAS pump

round skiff
#

Oh that's not how CAN works

#

That's the beauty of it, you can put multiple devices on one bus

drifting forge
#

Sounds complicated then

#

Nah fuck that, i want simple

round skiff
#

Sure, but you should definitely look into CAN in general. It's such an amazing piece of technology, and I hate new car shit

#

This is a good illustration of how it works

drifting forge
#

Reminds me of ASi networks I have to deal with at work, fuck that shit

round skiff
#

Lol

#

I'm going to convert by gauge cluster to run off CAN

drifting forge
#

I dont want to use it out of pure vitriolic principle

round skiff
#

So I can just run 4 wires plus 6 bulb signals to it

#

Same with the DCCD controller, I'm gonna make an interface for it so I can just run 6 wires into it

#

Instead of running like 6 wires between ECU and DCCD alone, along with like 10 more to everywhere else

drifting forge
#

was gonna finally do the hubs and brakes today

built up the hubs, only to realise I didn't buy the bolts to mount the calipers to them (and no i can't reuse the old ones because those are a different size)

so can't do shit till next weekend

round skiff
#

Does your local hardware store happen to stock fine pitch? Put those in until you get the OE ones

drifting forge
#

nope. and its a holiday weekend so everything is closed until tuesday

round skiff
#

Ah

drifting forge
#

So yeah the pump cometely caked it today. Started making all the wrong noises on the way to the car meet. When I got there we found the reservoir was loose on the pump body, but didnt have anything to fix it in situ so had to drive it back home like that. The two bolts holding the reservoir to the pump had loosened themselves to not even fingertight, and the o-ring had a nip in it. Cleaned it all off, put the closest size o-ring i had on hand to replace the old one, and loctited the bolts. Will bleed it tomorrow when I get it up in the air to do the wheel hubs, fingers crossed it works.

Also the pulley is bent. Not the shaft, not the bearing, the pulley. Need to find another one if the bleed situation is sorted. Wonder if the pulley off the newage pump will fit.

pearl oak
#

Gotta love it…

drifting forge
#

New hubs on, brakes bled, had to do a steering rack gaiter too, PS pump seems happy, not tried steering under load yet because the rain keeps coming, but no more screaming noises

round skiff
#

Did you find the facelift accordion boot? I happened across one

drifting forge
#

the what

pearl oak
#

shift boot

drifting forge
#

oh yeah got one that came with the forester center console

#

ages ago lol

round skiff
#

Aight

drifting forge
#

Pump didnt last

#

Pulley came loose on the M62, threw the belt off, limped into the services, tightened the pulley back on and put the belt back on, turn the key and it's clanking and rattling like a tin can full of dog shit. Looks like the splines have stripped, either from the pulley or from the shaft. don't know for sure yet, will check tomorrow

round skiff
#

Good thing the pumps are plentiful

drifting forge
#

no they're not lol

#

not the 99-00 turbo one at least

round skiff
# drifting forge not the 99-00 turbo one at least

The NA pumps flow a bit more and operate at a slightly lower pressure. You could try taking a NA GD pump and fitting it with the remote reservoir and everything and swapping the relief valve, or see if it or the NA GC pump can fit the turbo reservoir and swap the valve over

drifting forge
#

What valve

#

I've got a hawkeye pump with the remote reservoir in the garage I'm going to try and fit

#

trying to figure out where to actually mount the reservoir tho, because I've got the whole airbox and boost solenoid and brake bias valve where I think it normally mounts on the hawkeye, but the reservoir lines are low pressure iirc so I should be able to just route them and make us some fresh hoses wherever

round skiff
drifting forge
#

Time to get that arm workout lol
