I get more checked bags on the way home than on the way there (0) anyone know a good place in Japan to find second hand luggage? Don’t need to buy a brand new bag lol

Isn't there a {something-something}-Off (like the Book-Off) that does stuff like that?

Otherwise check at Ameyokocho, you can get new bags/suitcases there for cheap. Though probably not the best quality, my spinner lasted 2 more trips before it started cracking around one of the wheels.

to be fair i bought new but muji often has decent bags

#

on my first trip there i bought a collapsible duffle thingy and it has a zipper to expand even more

#

i wanna say 3000-4000 yen

#

it’s quite practical

#

it folds mostly flat when empty so you can just pack it in your suitcase til you need it

Oh wow

#

Right now the plan is my backpack as personal item, then fold a duffle in to my wheeled carry on, and find one more bag I can check @unkempt kraken

#

Specifically on the way home, I don’t have bag allowance on the way

#

I just found a cheap rolling carry on at goodwill that seems well traveled (came with an air Italia tag from the previous owner)

#

Like $7?

#

Perfectly good just well traveled.

you could also do something like this: https://www.matadorequipment.com/products/refraction-packable-backpack

more expensive but packs super tiny. i use my combo backpack+duffle backpack for big stuff and leave it at the hotel usually, then use this for day pack

They had an almost new rolling duffel carryon for 50 I was close to getting but it felt just a tad big for a carry on

The smaller bag on this photo is what I have that is also a vertically expanding duffle bag with wheels that can attach or detach. I bought it on Amazon in USA but saw they had them in Japan at a few shops for cheaper like 3k yen?

#

The Shinagawa prince hotel one of the souvenir shops had it, and I also saw it at a souvenir shop in Shinsaibashisuji I think. I assume they're scattered around diff shops too

#

I find it's really useful as my sleepover bag (I live part time at uncle's house and bf's house every week)

#

It expands up to about the size limit for most overhead carry-on

#

Depending what you're putting in it though, like for heavier things it might not be as good because it lacks hard structure other than the bottom being flat, it'll probably flop over alot if it's top heavy. So it's more suitable for like clothes

If the things you’re packing don’t need to be in a hard shell, I recommend getting a packable duffel bag. Can’t get destroyed by baggage handlers

But I got an upgrade on the way back that gives me 2 bags so I’m looking to fill that last bag. I paid for it I’m checking two bags lol

To wrap and pack between.

#

Also last trip I put fragile stuff in the Carryon except the sake which I wrapped in clothes and that was fine.
