every time I try to launch my game from Geforce Now (Destiny 2) it says that it's patching the game... the game works fine for other people using the same server connection (Steam)... am I missing something here?

It's completely normal. Patching and maintenance are not always attached to a game patch itself.

No. NVIDIA doesn't provide any ETA for patching and maintenance, as it's impossible to predict when it will be finished.
We, as users, see the games working perfectly. But their systems might detect something that is causing issues and the game need to be put under maintenance or patching.
GFN is way more complex than in our minds. 😅

What explains what I mentioned above. They probably found something wrong with the Steam version and are working on it.
The downside of using the EGS version is... If you own the expansions, it's not carried out from one store to another.

Minutes, hours, days or even months. Of course, long periods are quite rare.
