I'm still having problems with designing the main character and his purpose could you critique?

I am able to make super cool setting and world ideas and monsters and things such like that, but I always fail at making a purpouse for the main character and I give up the project

Could you critique this sentence I tought of?

I should be able to make the main character have any goal I want right?

No matter how ridiculous it is, right?What is your experience in main characters and their goals?

think of all the games you have played. what was the main characters backstory.. any? did it matter to you? was an anonymous hero more fun, like diablo, or darkstone?

a goal ends up just being a dopamine rewards trigger. the journey is where the game is. the hero could need to find an apple for grandma, or slay the dragon. it is all the same

So I don't have to plan him to be like the next Luke or stuff like that, insanely complex for my brain.I will try making his goal a fun thing.
