#As a "Pro" Dev who has advanced Unity and Prog knowledge, what stops you from making a game ?

Personally,
What stops me from doing a game is my lack of experience mainly in Programming but also in Unity as I'm a beginner and was thinking what it felt like to have alot of knowledge but I'm confused on why people with knowledge can't create games and publish them, hence my question 😄

I don’t understand the question. Who has a lot of game dev experience but has never shipped a game?
Some people
They probably do them for their personal fun
they probably just meant what could stop you from making a game. what are the usual roadblocks
@opaque pond @proven grove @grand void Are you an experienced Game Dev ? If Yes, did you already publish a game ?
I forgot to mention the "success" factor, like if you shipped a game why wasn't it a success ?
I'm asking this because I see alot of people who answer people's questions about Unity and programming, so they look like experienced but I think (this a is a pure supposition from my part here) most of them didn't ship a game or have a successful game, hence my question to understand what other blocages I could expect once I reach that "pro" level thinking that it's good enough to make a full game and ship it and be successfull (so either making a living out of it or even beyond that, becoming really rich).
So I guess it's not as easy as I describe it, so I think I'm missing something about the narrative which would explain why alot of expert devs aren't successfull, and that's what I'm looking for to understand with this convo 🙂
I've shipped 20+ games for OTHER people and am an advanced game developer with 16 years of experience. I've been unable to ship a game of my own, even though I've been doing indie dev for 10+ years. When I find out why this is I'll let you know!
well for me i just eventually found that i don't really have the creativity required to make full games. I still use unity on the regular to make tools and things for myself. but the only games I'm working on I don't have plans on releasing publicly; just among friends.
Please do 😄 Like did you ever try at least to do a game on your own ?
My supposition of the reason you weren't able to even though you have 16 years of experience is loosing motivation quickly, which I personnaly do and restarting a new project every 2 weeks 😄
i’m not classified as a pro i’ve been here for around a year in unity and haven’t published a game yet really
i could easily publish them i have many cool games but the problem is that i just quit on a project after maybe 1 week of working on it idk why ngl
I’ve shipped many games. Some were successful, some were not.
When you work outside of established (sub)genres there’s a big risk of things not turning out super well. You can do everything right but at the end of the day the concept just doesn’t resonate with people.
With small games like that you just want to push out a lot and see what sticks.
There’s a lot to be said about market research. Median revenues. Lots of good tools to see how different genres perform.
So you can know whether you have a shot, even in the concept stage. But a lot of it’s still down to execution and timing.
I have the same issue of loosing motivation really quickly but the main reason is because I get stuck because I don't have enough experience to unstuck myself from those situations 😬
Mhhh that's interesting 🤔 Did you ever do a personal game from start to finish and publish it to see if it was successful or not ? Because if you worked for clients, you don't have much control on deciding what theme to go fo, how the gameplay should be, etc...
So that would interesting to see how a personnal project where you have control from A to Z to see the result of it 🙂
As project lead I was at least involved in (and often responsible for) every design decision, and well aware of aspects like marketing.
I’ve yet to release a successful solo game, but I think my latest effort is well underway. Certainly seems to appeal to people.
anyways i’m working on a game for my yt channel that im planning to publish hopefully i actually do it lol
Nice I hope it works for you and you could bring us some teachings on how it went and what you did that works and what didn't work so we can learn 😄
btw use unity learn courses they’re really good
especially the junior programmer pathway when you’re done you got the begginer stuff
Is it already ready on your youtube channel, please give the link I would like to watch that 🙂
i have another game on my yt channel but this one i’m currently working on still not done
is it your voice in that video or is it AI ? 🙂
AI lol does it sound natural
A bit yeah, which AI did you use ?
can't find "mark ai" in eleven labs website, also is it free ?
yea it’s free
wait let me look at it quickly
you have to sign in the website then go to instant soeech and press the ai name it should be rachel as your start, then search for mark
if you’re using the app for iphone then you won’t find it cuz the voices are a bit different, but anyways most voices there are natural if you take a look at them
anyways i gtg sleep now ttyl
Thank you 🙂
