here is a thread so we do not flood the main room

“The hub does not have proper permissions to download” but i did give it permissions through properties many times

#

I think my computer is lying to me though

#

Sometimes when i try to download it it says i dont have enough space (i have 100 gigabytes)

odd saffron
#

if it says that, then you need to look towards your security software. are you using a Windows Admin permissions account?

vast zephyr
#

Im using my computers admin profile

odd saffron
#

what security software do you run?

vast zephyr
#

Hold on

#

I think i just did smth

marble kestrel
#

might be a firewall issue

#

you can turn it off in settings but make sure you put it back on

#

unity kinda hates firewalls 😅

vast zephyr
marble kestrel
#

where did you download it before?

odd saffron
#

that is a band-aid fix, but good. you will most likely have issues installing Modules with Hub now though

vast zephyr
vast zephyr
#

In the instals tab

marble kestrel
#

if not then you can just turn it off for installation

#

then turn it back on after

vast zephyr
#

With the website installation

odd saffron
#

i suggest figuring out how to get it installed the normal route through the Hub, than you will not have issues

marble kestrel
odd saffron
#

i do not know off the top of my head how, or if you can install them to a non-hub install

marble kestrel
odd saffron
#

Unity Hub, and further, Visual Studio (which it installs) may require more permissions than just Hub. I would suggest using the initial suggestion @ dec_ves had, and disable the firewall entirely while trying again

even if it sits on Validating for a long time, just let it run. it sometimes takes more time than expected

#

also, make sure you catch any UAC pop-up when it asks for more permissions

marble kestrel
#

thats the antivirus

vast zephyr
#

Nvm i found it

#

Just turned it off

marble kestrel
#

turn it back on after

#

its useful

vast zephyr
#

It says validation error but im assuming i turned it off too late

#

Ill try again

marble kestrel
#

so now you can download normally since you got a validation error instead of getting locked out

#

but do try again

marble kestrel
vast zephyr
#

Ok

marble kestrel
#

i said it a little differently, my bad 😅

vast zephyr
#

Nope it says validation error :(

marble kestrel
#

check the logs to see whats causing it

get your project out of onedrive

#

that causes a ton of hiccups and errors

#

since it is cloud based, it screws with unity

#

did onedrive take all of your C: drive folders and such?

marble kestrel
#

nuts

#

welp

vast zephyr
#

is there a way to get rid of it

marble kestrel
#

If you are using the Microsoft OneDrive desktop client app to synchronize your files and folders between OneDrive and your computer, you might have noticed that it replaces the default locations for your Documents, Desktop and Photos etc. with C:\Users\username\OneDrive\Documents for example.

If you want to restore your Windows default folder l...

after you have all of your data restored to its orginal file path, you can delete onedrive (if you want)

marble kestrel
odd saffron
#

indeed. anytime i do a fresh install, one of the first things on the list is to remove OneDrive

#

but, for some, it does have its uses

marble kestrel
#

you use it?

#

thats not very nice of you 😂

odd saffron
#

me? no.. i uninstall it right away 🙂

marble kestrel
#

good, i helped someone a while back and it practically made a whole new PC for him

#

that was hard to get rid of

#

it took most of his files and put it in onedrive, so when he used unity, unity didnt know what it was looking at and failed on him

odd saffron
#

one of the first things i run when i do a fresh install, and then also after any updates. it can be run at any time

marble kestrel
#

that looks amazing

#

oh wow it can literally block anything, neat.

#

where did you find it?

odd saffron
#

hmm. i do not really recall. i think i was doing random searches for how to disable things using gpedit.msc when i saw that pop-up, so i tried it. i used to use Blackbird, but it was to easy to totally destroy a Windows install with it, and also not very easy to use

marble kestrel
#

gpedit.msc? seems like a virus tbh

#

or at least spyware

odd saffron
#

nah, that is the built in Microsoft Group Policy Editor. it is not in Home Edition though.. only the Pro and what used to be called Ultimate

#

in Home Edition, you'd have to edit Registry Entries, instead of Group Policies

marble kestrel
#

oh gpedit = GroupPolicyEdit

#

i see now

vast zephyr
#

I cant log into my onedrive account because my account is frozen, i go to the onedrive website and it says my account is frozen because im over my storage limit of 5gb. I deleted some stuff off onedrive through the website and now im using 1% of my limit yet the issue still persists and it still says im over my storage limit

#

It feels like my computer specifically doesnt want me to use unity

odd saffron
#

if you are on Pro edition, you can just press Win R then type gpedit.msc and it will open. i think you can open it from Control Panel > Windows Tools too

marble kestrel
#

just delete it

#

after you get your files of course

odd saffron
#

i have to get back to work. nice job figuring out it was a OneDrive issue!

#

good luck

vast zephyr
#

With my account being frozen because less than 0.1 gb being used is too much

marble kestrel
#

thats why we all hate onedrive, it forces your files to use it then tries to make you pay for it even though you didnt want to use it

#

what exactly did you have in it?

#

anything important?

vast zephyr
marble kestrel
#

then Re-download unity hub on your C: and specify to windows that it will go there

#

then download unity normally

#

glad you have your important files on something not so bad

vast zephyr
marble kestrel
#

you could just move your files you want manually to your C: drive

vast zephyr
#

Only the onedrive ones

marble kestrel
#

you dont have desktop or documents in C:\Users\USERNAME?

marble kestrel
#

ah good 😅

#

then just either follow the tutorial then or just manually move your files to your C: drive

vast zephyr
#

Ok

#

Onedrive is 100% deleted

marble kestrel
#

well i have to head out, if you still are having the problem tommorow then just ping me 👍
