Alright. I can send some when i get back onto the project
@void pier . sorry for @ ing you, didnt know if you saw these or not
Looks fine. So whats the problem?
Few things, ill send screenshots
This, when using CPU for baking
And this when using my GPU for baking
It spikes up to 12+ hours
is your fence set to GI Static?
Yeah. Beside that is a small arrow where you can set detailed static levels
GI Static means, that its included into the Global Illumination calculation process (baking)
i can imagine, that by unticking GI Static for the fence, it should work.
Because the fence is way to small to be baked good.
alright, ill try that
Very small Objects often lead to extreme baking times
alright, should i untick it on all the small things?
Like, my stairs, their just a bunch of cylinders
is all of this made with probuilder?
yeah, i dont know how to use anything else
For the steps i would try it out. Maybe it works.
We should check how good the Lightmap UVs look for them.
To have a look how your Lightmap UVs look like
you have different options. Which Unity version are you on?
up here is a little dropdown window. In 2022 it looks a little different to mine, but there is "Contributors & receivers"
If you toggle this on and enable the checkerboard view, you can see the resolution of your Lightmap on the objects.
yeah, looks good.
You always need a nice checkerboard to make sure everything is alright!
and there you can see, that your fence and the cube wont be baked
thats also good for planning whats getting baked and what not !
for the first bake, i would recommend lowering the "Lightmap Resolution" from 20 to 5
It wont be beautiful with this resolution, but you will see if it works.
You can crank this up later!
it worked, and you were right lol
not very pretty
so something is wrong with your stairs.
If you watch the Contributor/Receiver view, you can have a look if they are shows blue?
(dont know which color means what in your version)
ik , i turned off the thingy
i unticked the thing*
for the stairs since its just a bunch of cylinders and it might have been causing an issue
yeah, turn in on and have a look which colors the stairs have.
It looks like there is something wrong with them ๐
possibly
not sure what i see there,
The checkerboard looks stretched?
not referring to the stairs no, but other objects yes
try to increase it to 20 again
increase to 20 and run the bake or increase to 20 and look at the checkerboard of the stairs
bake ^^
should i clear the last bake
no its automatically cleared
oh ok
it just got stuck on this and lagged my pc
and gave me the GPU memory error again
Do you work on very old hardware?
im not sure if its very old, 1080TI and Ryzen 5 2600
oh well that should handle it easy
here, it says 8 gb isnt enough GPU memory
or, actually
8gb of gpu memory isnt enought to handle the bake, so it changes to cpu
thats weird and should not happen with a 1080TI
when it was on 5 it baked perfectly fine in like 3-4 seconds
but 20 is too much ig
Can you bake with 5 texels again and show me that?
bake time?
Thats so weird
Okay.
Are you bound to your Unity Version (2022.3) ?
Or can you update it?
im not sure, im making a vrchat world and i dont think they have sdks for newer versions. plus i dont wanna risk loosing anything since i've been working on this for about a week
Longest i've seen the eta bake finish timer at is right around 4 days when its at 20 texels
could it be an issue with a reflection probe?
not really
i mean now its the time of finding the problem
I would recommend trying a new scene, ad a bunch of cubes on a plane and bake it on a high resolution.
And make sure if it crashes too.
Then something is wrong with your hardware / unity version i guess
if i "Save scene as" and put it in a folder, will that keep all my stuff safe?
Hmm, no.
What do you mean with "all"
The scene is just your level (the house and garden)
If you save the scene you can come back at any time to this house
nvm, i just made a new scene and disabled the other one
thats not a great way
i have several scenes for each level
you can jump between them
do a right click in the Project window, create new scene and then double click it to get into it
there you can test the bakining of normal cubes and if they work for you. (they should)
Did you add objects (Set to static) and a light (set to baked) ? ^^
yeah, now grab everything and duplicate it like 20 times ๐
with normal unity cubes and a pro-builder sprite as the ground
alr
to challange your GPU ^^
Thats sad
Is your GPU updated?
like drivers?
yep
oh shit i didnt even realise, there was an update 3 days ago
ima go update that rq lol
is it safe to leave unity open while i do
damn, im using game ready drivers btw. should i use studio drivers instead?
no thats not a problem
okay
should i still update?
or will it not contribute to unity whatsoever
i guess you dont, if your current driver isnt 2 years old ๐
Try those settings for your bake
Oh.. better uncheck Ambient Occlusion
on the test scene or on the house scene?
whys that?
doesnt do anything visually?
sure, it adds ambient occlusion to the light maps ^^
should i try those settings on the house scene?
yeah
i hope it wont need 48min ๐
yeah
alr
(The squares are pieces that i put) It looks nice but idk whats going on with the lighting in image 3
@void pier
There is also a "Texel Validity" Debug View, how does that look?
cursed lol
ty. its late rn for me. can we continue this tomorrow?
its in the morning for me ๐
So yeah ^^
