I went for lunch.
The games industry is a multibillion dollar industry, of course there's the possibility to earn a living from it.
To answer the separate parts of your question.. it depends ..
Freedom to create the games you want? Only if you're indie.
Earn a living from it? If you're working for a company, yes obviously..
Working as an indie? Yes, it's possible, there are countless examples of this. But, for every example of someone earning a living, there's probably a thousand failures.
But doesn't that apply to all fields? There are failures everywhere maybe they lacked somewhere in their work
I have also seen some people first work at a job and then later quit the company and start publishing their own games after gaining the experience
Yes, to both comments
Thanks, Imma go with gamedev and give it my best I believe in myself so let's do what my heart wantss!
If you're going the indie route, you can still have a full time job and do gamedev in your spare time, until you reach a sustainable level where you earn enough to just do gamedev
Imma go with this, First work and get more experience then quit and get indie
