yo
If you're interested in my game I can keep you updated
Progress is gonna be pretty slow though, since I'm pretty busy and about to go on vacation
it looks neat. im not sure how much id contribute if anything lol
i like brainstorming ideas
ive been playing games for 37 years lol
That's ok lol, any amount of engagement is alright
This is one of those games that can cause people to devote tons of time to
if the goal is speedrunning and you can integrate it with speedrunning websites or whatever...
Just so you know I 99% won't implement your ideas, just because I'm really trying my hardest to keep the scope of the project small, but I'll try to stay active on it
Yeah that would be a cool feature definitely
Gotta get some levels in first
i honestly think the #1 thing you need to do is just make it so scores are recorded historically
everything else... who cares
i want my circle to that square AFAFP
I've got a huge todo list before I can get to thinking about leaderboards, but it's a good suggestions
Lol yeah
if i cant compare my score to your score... i wont play it more than once or twice
I spent a good couple months making a polished character controller, I think that's focus #1 in these kinds of games
theres no incentive
But yeah leaderboard is cool
well priority would be to finish the game, since there's NPCs to race against
But once that's done it would be awesome for leaderboards
Gonna be working on a demo pretty soon
you could avoid writing the NPCs altogether
its just client-side player runs and scores compared against each other in a list
That's a big jump imo
If you want to try the demo I can let you know in a couple of months
It's still far from completion, got so many levels to make and features to implement
Was about to take a break
What all do you have left aside from making more levels?
Well, I was gonna try to focus on making some more polished looking environments
More particles, and game feels
"Juice"
i assumed that fell under "making more levels"
I've got a few little bugs to fix, and I also need to properly set up the menus so that they look good
ok
well on that note, id recommend setting up the platforms and stuff and then skin it after
you talked about the control system
you're gonna wanna get that flushed out before you make it pretty
that way you also know how many levels to make, what assets you can reuse, etc.
Then I have a few other little features I'd like to add, like unique art for each area, better fonts, decorations, and then all of the music and sound effects + management for audio
Yep, that was my focus for the first couple of months
About 7 months in on this project working 5-10 hours per week
thats a single working session for me lol
not meaning full time job
just cant work for an hour or two only a day or on something once a week
would go nuts
Yeah, same here
I usually set aside an entire day to work on it
Maybe 3-4 hours in an evening on Thursday or Friday and then another 6-7 hours on the weekend
I was working more at the beginning, but sort of slowed down, still going though
Theres more than just whats in the video, ya?
Content-wise, not much
and a lot that im not seeing/aware of
Only thing I didn't show was a secondary forest location, a few different houses, and then menus
Just test scenes to see what the game would look like
so what would you say consumed the largest portion of the time thusfar?
Content-wise there isn't a single level that'll be in the final game yet
Maybe half?
Can't be sure
At this point though I've got a lot of what I'd consider content to make. Sounds, art, music
i dont mind paying for assets. i got a really nice hero editor on sale as well as that ui asset pack
I'm going to try my hand at the soundtrack though, since I've always had a mind for music
Yeah assets are great
Recently bought a massive poly pack that I'm planning on using for a later project
Yeah
Tbh it doesn't have to be amazing, just passable is good for me lol
lol yeah
This would be my first commercial game
I've got quite a few smaller projects published, but nothing I'd ever imagine paying for
Hoping to make this my first commercial ๐
Those are interesting
ive got a few other ideas as well
Haven't played many deckbuilding games but I know that they can be really good
pokemon came out when i was a kid so i got into that
also got into magic
worked for curse reverse engineering hearthstone
Yeah those are the classics
Never really played many classics, I'm too young for those
But I've always looked up to them for game design inspiration
Nowadays we have our newer classics. Celeste, Hollow Knight are two big ones that really inspire me
lol
You missed out on shit like this:

this game had a solid copyright system too
you had to go to pages in the manual and put in the logo it asked you for to confirm you actually owned the game
Anyway, I've got to go, good talking to you. I'll try to keep you updated on the progress of my game through some posts here, so keep your eye out if you're interested
Haha that's a clever system
You too
Might have to try it
honestly id just get squadrons at this point ๐
