Like "oh the writing for Phanes is good" or "the rifle seems like it might be boring to use"
Thoughts on Death
Isn't Soul = Health, sometimes it says Soul and sometimes Health. Or are Health and Soul different mechanics?
No. They’re the same thing
I changed the system recently
Not everything has been fully updated
Lmao I just realized
MANKIND HAS WON
HELL IS EMPTY
SOUL IS FUEL
i suggest making player and boss healthbars (soulbars), in a white color then.
and maybe have an effect of particles flying out of enemies into you when you drain their soul
will it be a 2D platformer?
it's giving me a very hollow night kind of feel, making it dark and grim but using vibrant colors and effects would probably work pretty well no matter what kind of art style you will end up going with.
one suggestion is to structure the locations more linearly. staying in one location in act 1 then another, can give more of a progression than moving back and forth. If you want to give a throwback to earlier areas of the game you can use similar areas and apply them. for example if you have an early area inside a volcano, you can use similar enemy design at the end of the game when you are inside hell etc. But I wouldn't go back to Mars after you left it.
No, it’s a 3D movement shooter
Problem is, that’s what makes the most sense
Moving from place to place is just naturally how the god of Death would go about it
this will make the visuals a lot more difficult. But you can probably paint a skybox with some of the grander visuals
Yeah
I’m leaning towards Ultrakill-esque visuals
Do I wish I could make it realistic? Yes
could you make it more open world then? have a map of locations and be able to revisit locations and make it feel more natural? eg you have NPCs give quests and that way you know where to go instead of having distinctly level 1 level 2 etc
But I’m one 14 year old so I sincerely doubt that’s feasible
How much of the document have you read?
i flew over it, so not too much, so wanted to get a basic idea
Many of the things you’re suggesting are good general game ideas, and I appreciate the feedback, but they don’t fit my game very well at all
yeah that's fine, just suggestions i throw against the wall and see what sticks 😄
Fair, and much appreciated
you probably need to try to think about the minimal viable game you can create and then expand more and more
Here’s the basic description: it is a story driven linear campaign movement shooter focused on limitless speed and upgrades, grand and varied locations, simple yet intertwining weapon design, and large amounts of enemies
It’s like a Doom Eternal/Ultrakill mix
make the player, make like one enemy and build one basic level, then work on your character stats, how fast feels good, what kind of jump etc etc, then slowly add the new enemies and levels and slowly expand.
But faster and more emphasis on the story
Yep, that’s my plan :D
it's great to have an end goal, but it can be difficult to get there, so try to think of steps by step how you can get there
Already planning on taking a game design and Unity camp
for 3d based shooters there should be tons of tutorials online as well, so i think it isn't too bad of a first game idea
making 3d models for enemies will be tough though.
Yeah that’s my biggest barrier for sure
But I’ve already made some models myself, I have a friend who can model far better than I can, and I’m going to be taking a class on it as well
I am fucking making this game
impressive, i can only do some basic pixel art, natural 3D stuff is beyond me. The game i want to make, I'll make my inhabitants colorful balls probably, LOL
Well thank you
A program called tinkercad is technically designed for kids to use but I’ve found it very helpful for basic models
i use sketchup usually, which is also pretty easy to use
