Unreal is specifically geared for big studios to make big games in
Unity on the other hand supports more platforms with less porting work, and in my opinion doesn't require such large teams to use effectively

If your goal is to work in big studios at some point, then learning Unreal also is probably very beneficial
But they are really similar at the end of the day

Unity Hub requires access to internet through firewall to check your account credentials and to update the editor

Once you're familiar with the Particle System, next I would look into what the Universal Render Pipeline and the High Definition Render Pipeline are capable of
Especially important if VFX are your goal, since either of the two is required for the VFX Graph tool
