Nah, I had a couple more upgrades bought on the far right section.

1. Divide cost of a generator/upgrade by the extra income it will give (this gives the time it will take to 'break even' / make back its cost)
2. Divide the cost of that generator/upgrade by your current income rate (this gives the time it will take to afford it)
3. Add the two together to get the total break-even time
4. Repeat for each generator and upgrade
5. Purchase (or save up for) the one with the lowest time
6. Repeat until done

That goes for the main sim, too. The only problem with that greedy approach is that it ignores everything not currently available. It's sometimes better in the long run to do something immediately sub-optimal that unlocks something much better.
Beyond/Meso are a little different due to multiple currencies and rank mechanics but already have guides anyway

But simple cost/income analysis is the basis of the entire genre. Anyone who doesn't already know something that fundamental is going to have a hard time
