like, totaling the average currency per second, multiplying it by the time spent offline, and doing some math for the ad bonus shouldn't take that long

Well, the "point" is to get people to spend money via darwinium

By not having cosmetics directly available for $, but hiding it behind the chain of $ -> darwinium -> flux/boost -> event progress -> logit -> cosmetics, you introduce degrees of separation
Psychologically speaking, it helps prevent the brain from thinking of it as a direct purchase of cosmetics
