I've brought it up a few times before, but imo Meso (currently) has more agency due to shop manipulation, easier milestones, more frequent lootboxes
Beyond has more better clickables, but the milestones are much farther apart. The dwarf star missions are much less frequent than geodes, and there's not much opportunity to fish for good traits

You can delay Beyond lootboxes until you unlock the most recent generator, but you can do this in Meso as well - and there's no way (afaik) to manipulate the lootbox results for desirable traits
Whereas in MEso you can take advantage of the shop preferences

There's a recommendation for 100 every 5 stages of the Beyond for a Supergiant star
You'll also want some for later in Mesozoic (rank 50, before prestiging) but that's not for a while
Personally I try not to spend any yet

Generally speaking, focus only on Simulation Speed upgrades. If you do a lot of clicking, consider some tap upgrades. If you close the game often, consider some offline.
But simulation speed is by far the #1 priority
