I think of it like the dark glasses being stuff that's going to be added soon or is at least being planned, and the null nodes being "we'll do that at some point"
But there's no point in reading into it too much since plans change a bunch and I wouldn't expect the model to look the same forever

I wish they would allow the currency collections from the Exploration Hub events count towards the mutagen generation. I finished the Fungus Among Us event in less than 2 days and have been collecting toadstools that can't be used anywhere 😁

Well my suggestion is that after you finish an event and it ended all of the currency used in the event will be converted into darwinium giving a reason for the player to still play even if he/she already finished it.
