that's actually an interesting question... it is the more common from what I can tell, though I can only find websites that say "they're named this" without citing any sources. If I were to guess it makes short form (HDc) easier to read at a glance, eliminating problem with differentiating 6 and 7

say you want each next step to be twice as good as the previous one. Not too crazy, I think cells generally do 3 times on average with large bumps to spice it up. There are 30 life forms in the main simulation. So there is a difference of 2^30 between the weakest and the strongest generator. So if first one gave 1 per second, the last one would be giving 1 billion. Now slap in some upgrades on top of it, and a lot of meta-upgrades, and bam, you're in hexdecillions

1. "Cost/Income/Time" ... that's a completely meaningless number because it's "twisted". It becomes smaller if either the income is higher or the time is higher - but those are opposites, you know what I mean? (you increase income means the dino is better, but you increase time it means it's worse)

Example: Two dinos cost the same. One of them returns 1000 in 1 second, the other returns 100 in 10 seconds... are they the same? Not quite 😉
Meaningful numbers would be either "Cost / Income * Time" (that is: "How long does it take for an upgrade to pay off") or "Income / Cost / Time", which is the reverse, something like an "interest rate (per second) for an upgrade"
