there are different possibilities to upgrade your stuff. either on the "grafical elemet" or in the "table" where also you stats are standing. when I want to hit a spcific level (e.g. 150 for the next bonus at dinos) I just hold the line with the finger and every time enough ressources are available, it gets updated. now you have to tab every few seconds. Now I only can do that on the "graphical part". but I never play there, because I dont see what is worth to upgrade.

If you want to do this and not get very good time use nanobots in buy mode (you only need to swipe your screen)

The problem with doing it that way is that it just buys a bunch of stuff you don't need. Don't waste time. Click up through the tree as fast as you can only buying stuff that you need at the minimum amount. 120 sec is easy 90 sec is a little bit hard.
