On the idea/entropy burst: Watch for the amount it gets you to go up. It seems to go up by 10x every time you unlock and purchase a new life form or civilization upgrade, and also sometimes when you hit certain quantity milestones of items (although i haven't pinned down what the exact trigger is on those). So the best time to use one is soon after you've bought a new item and bought as many of it and its upgrades as possible, if it's still taking forever to get enough currency for the next substantial purchase or upgrade, and using the burst will get you either past what you need, or close enough that you'll catch up to it normally soon after using the burst.
