when you hit those walls, you'll make more progress in the event if you come back a few minutes/hours later. also, if you want to place better on the leaderboards, it's better to not start an event right away, because a lot of competitive players do that. if you want to rank higher, I'd recommend waiting half a day at least before starting, which can help get you a bit further up the ranks
