I've only had IP pass twice. But I take the approach (helped by ad boosts and now badge boost) that if I'm doing an event I'm gonna do my best to get top ten and get the diamond geode and Black Hole (irl and shenanigans permitting). Apart from that, the free 4-hourly geodes build up.

Mutagen is the limiting factor for me tbh.
