Hi, question regarding the new metabit system. I have yet to prestige (reboot) and have ridden out 6 level-ups from level 51 to 57 waiting to get a feel around the best timing to reboot. I have enough mb/kn for 13 upgrades. The thing that's holding me back is that due to the conversion, I have a high number of high-value lifeforms & ideas that it seems could take ages to rebuild at the new pace. For example, 427 Martian Cities generating 1.56 e93/s, and 474 Feliforms @ 2.61 e95/s all leftover from the old system. My new Amphibians are generating more but I was only able to purchase them due to the Feliform production. In the old system, it was virtually guaranteed that one could go from cell to singularity (max level everything) in under 6 minutes after a reboot, restoring prior production levels fairly quickly (a few days) with the upgrades gained during the reboot. How long does it take to max out everything for your knowledge level after a reboot now?

It will likely be a shock. Because of 2 things: the generators you had, but also the 8 Time nodes. These can have a pretty large effect on Entropy/idea generation per second. Having said that, they will rebuild. And the meta for fastest progression seems to be rebooting every 15 mins or so: when your Metabit/Knowledge growth tails off (the benefit from buying new nodes also outweighs sitting with a (relatively) underpowered engine.

Whether you want to spam reboot ... Well that's a different question ...

This is the Time node growth chart ... But depends how many and which upgrades you're buying. If it's e.g. x5 Simulation (quick). If it's a marginal increase to Knowledge (slow). But will likely be quicker than you think. Certainly quicker to progress from where you are.

RL XP is based on entropy and ideas. Which increase non-linearly. So it sorta makes sense that the blue bar isn't linear. Having said that, I feel like the blue bar is too non-linear. There's a bug report.

Before the reality reboot, I was at a dead end pretty much with 99.9% of all reboot techs acquired. Kind-of regret not going for the 3 minute achievement when it would have been pretty easy to do, but on balance it might be better to regress a little if that means there's more to do in the game. Sounds like the answer to reaching what seems like a dead end now will just be rebooting.

Singularity times are a lot easier now (once you get to a certain point). There's quite a lot of nodes been hidden, so less to spam-click.

I've rebooted 4 times since the update. Got me from 52 to 64. You don't have to spam reboot. But occasional reboots do help.

Re when to start, it depends how actively you can play. I can tell you that this event takes me about 2 1/2 time more than the last one (Deep).

perform a task with information you've been instructed to learn

remember, this is SIMPLEST form reality of what AI does. this is like having your toddler compose their first sentence that sorta makes sense

I like to think of ML in general as "fancy pattern matching". Ofc it isn't as simple as that, but it kinda puts a border around what it can reasonably do. Sortof.

Whether it’s already in a state where that hype can be justified or is yet to reach it is what will determine whether a crash will happen, and thus far, it’s been largely successful in replacing workers. The more workers are replaced, the more unemployment and wealth inequality rises, causing the current economic system to be questioned and eventually challenged by those who’ve been left behind.

No, that's how how it's happening. Yes, large companies are indeed pushing for that, and the results (bad) speak for themselves. You can agree with the hype all you want, but there's a lot of "imaginary" money (based on crazy stock valuations) going around in circles in the top companies, but it's predicated on results and on a buildout that can't happen bc, for one thing, the literal energy to run them isn't there, and it's chasing future performance when actual performance of the LLMs themselves is plateauing. It's all a metaphorical "house of cards" and it WILL crash down as ALL bubbles do. What will remain will be the useful parts of ML, just as in the Internet crash 25 years ago. Tech can change but humans remain the same. And hype inevitably gives way to reality when the money train stops

LLMs aren't totally useless ofc, but they have been way overhyped, and are often confidently wrong

it obviously helps me troubleshoot some things (you have to know how to interact with things like chatgpt...it's not just mindlessly accepting what it says as the correct answer). It just cuts down my troubleshooting time significantly but when i need it to summarize a troubleshooting session and create technical documents and notes for documentation, it's HUGELY important for me at this point

I don’t agree with the hype, nor do I entirely agree with those who will (and already are) inevitably challenge the current economic system whether a crash happens or not (economic crashes tend to push political radicalization, and we’re already in an era of radical politics). I’m talking from a speculative standpoint; I’m not claiming to know what scenario will happen so much as I’m trying to determine how these scenarios will affect society going forward. Also, the companies are more than aware of the energy problem, which is why I mentioned it as a key part of the non-crash scenario. Houses of cards are doomed to crash, the real question I’m centering this around is WHEN it’ll crash.

As to when it'll crash, it's interesting that when Nvidia had their recent earnings call, and they did much better than expected, their share value... fell. That's a crack in the bubble, right there. My sense is that it'll crash sometime next year. Ofc, predicting the future is easy, but being accurate, and especially when one is specific about details, is incredibly hard. So.. we'll see. Either way, we live through it. I am quite annoyed that it has made DDR5 prices skyrocket, for whatever that might be worth.

If you ask me, a problem with using and integrating AI into things is how non-precise human society can be.

Sarcasm, innuendo, general metaphors-I feel like an AI would struggle with these, generally.
Leading to such problems as getting frustrated, saying "Kill me now...", and having an AI understand that that was not a homicidal request.

The human brain is a complex thing, and until we can figure out how to put it all into a machine, we're always gonna have problems.

FWIW imo 'AI' as we have it can be useful. But it can be badly wrong.

The immediate risk - like with all tools - is when people use them without understanding them or thinking about it.

I personally think the Devs are reducing the Meso prestige impact with e.g. the changes to multipliers. So players don't feel obliged to do it.

The Devs know lots of people disliked it. And now it's completely optional: the game doesn't drive you to it (after getting to level 50). Unless you want the Darwinium.

I like the recent big update, but it seems to have made the game a lot more resource heavy. On my (admittedly outdated) iPad, opening menus etc is slow, and watching a few ads makes it to be so slow that the game force closes. It was not so bad before the update.

Every day there are players who lose all of their progress in their game. Weeks, months or even years of progress get lost because their phone broke, because they loaded an alpha/beta game to the main game (Pre-expansion), because they clear their cookies and browser storage of the web version of Cells, because of a game bug or because their disk/ssd/flash storage got corrupted. Cell to Singularity got a nice solution to prevent you from losing your game which is the Crossplatform Save feature. This stores your game progress safely to the Cell to Singularity cloud server. This works besides your local saves.

To use it, open the game menu ☰, click Save manager, and go to the Crossplatform save feature. Create an account there. Verify the code you get in your e-mail and save your game.

Now go back here every day to save your game. You do this manually.

Click the image and make it large to see step-by-step instructions. As bonus, you can use this feature to transfer your game progress between devices. So you can save your game on your phone and continue playing in the PC/Steam of browser version of the game.

For advanced users: On Windows your savegames are located in the folder: "C:\Users(Your user name)\AppData\LocalLow\Computer Lunch". You can copy the entire folder to make an additional backup.
