Each event has lots of divisions (with 1000 players in); they start at 11 (probably) and fill up one by one. When you join an event (technically collect the first thing) you join in the one that's currently filing up.

Buy your most effective generator. Especially aim for getting that generator up a level (because then it's X3). Don't worry about going for most missions (they'll get easy as you get more income). Keep astronomy missions going as much as you can. Collect your free 4 hourly thingy. Buy the 100 dw things when you can afford them (use /codes in the Semblance channel). Wait.
