Heard it a lot myself, that later divisions are easier to get higher ranks in. Seems true to me (done about 35 events). But - depending on where you are in your progression, makesure you make sure you get the 3 badges, because they'll give you a permanent boost (to that event, and others).

I started a day late 2 events ago and got top 100, I started right away on the most recent event and couldn't get close to breaking top 400.

I also think that it has to do with people who start later typically won't be as active, so if you are an active player getting put into a less active grouping, then it will be easier to rank up

starting an event right as it comes online is a surefire way to not break into high ranks because the early divisions have all those people trying to break records. you also get those people just wanting to finish the event the whole time through, and from a certain point onwards, you get other people also trying to get high rankings by starting late. It's always a bit of a gamble, but the odds for high ranks are more in your favor when you start later

after a prestige, early dinos are only needed to be automated, so level 1-2 traits in speed and 0 in payout. then when progress slows down and it takes longer than 10 minutes to complete an extinction, I start leveling traits equally. Every 2 dinos will have equal trait levels. Example, Velociraptor and Compso will have 3/3, then Pachy and Gallis will have 4/4

A good way to get a higher score is to join the event later. Everyone is placed into “divisions” when they start to stop too many players competing against each other, and so the later divisions are emptier.

Of course, that runs the risk of not finishing the event. And they get expensive fast. Believe me, they get expensive fast.
