Reasoning

-Viruses are not alive, but are closely linked to life and evolve alongside it. Therefore, it is fitting to have viruses as an auxiliary thing but not a node in the primary simulation.

-Allowing for extremely generous creative/fictional license, one way of adding traits to living organisms is with genetic modification, inserting a new gene into them. This can be done with viruses. Therefore, it is fitting for the nanobots that can purchase traits and expand your tree to be viruses.

-Of viruses, bacteriophage have shapes sort of similar to the nanobots.

-Of viruses, bacteriophage look cool and are readily recognizable.

(I just scrolled through the thread and saw @hexed quiver also said bacteriophage, so if this idea wins they should 100% get primary credit for it. But I wanted to still submit mine since I had drawn it out and had a few details in mind, hopefully if it wins I can still contribute to the implementation part a bit)

Angel when its clicking and devil when it's buying. The Nano-Angel helpfully assists you in earning currency and the Nano-Devil spends all your hard earned currency on generators (very useful, but if you accidentally press buying mode when trying to save up for an upgrade, a bit devastating).

An elephant's skull nanobot. One of the original sources of the Cyclops myth, and looks quite nanobot-like.

Also there are lots of interesting things about elephants, and their interactions with humans and their impact on their biome.

It's animation could be it's skin, trunk, ears etc appearing? Which would give it 3 'legs'. You already have a model for an elephant (might need adjusting 🙂). However, there's the Indian species too as well as the extinct ones and e.g. mammoths.

I'm not saying the AI submissions are against the rules. I may not like them, but I know they're not inherently against the rules (most just happen to be for being too detailed). Frankly, I'd be taking the same stance if someone explicitly went "I made your thing better" even without the AI. Just in general, taking someone else's artistic work and going "look how much better I am" is audacious and shows blatant disrespect for the artist.

A Flatfish-bot (view from overhead).

Flatfish are interesting because of the weird things that evolution resulted in to get them to have two eyes on one side of their head.

Also changing the orientation of the bot could be cool, and they would suit the Ocean garden (and look funny in other gardens).

I don't think they have the two leg fins but there could be a type somewhere.

Their animation could be blowing bubbles / flapping their fins / whatever fish do. Or showing their skeleton (cos it's weird, and skeletons are fascinating).

Ofc they are, well flat so that might mess up the nanobot model and how it looks in the gardens 🤔.

Consider a theme based on a neuron, the nanobot's chassis taking after a soma with the associated dendritic branches. Instead of claws, it has a tail taking after the axon, with the axon terminal's branches contracting/clenching in the activation animation.

As for color scheme, a pale green body and light blue core speaks to me. But of course that can be changed at the devs' whims
