Any actual suggestions for the rework?
hot potato timer is paused by parley
I guess the question is , is potato problematic because it’s enabling cards like parley,barbed, invisible/garbage to behave this way ?
Or would the same issue come up with cards that function similarly, making barbed, parley, etc the problem cards
If the latter, barbed could be changed to only apply to “X” cards depending on rank
What egg said is probably a good fix for the parley part , but make is so it stops ALL countdowns for consistency
There would also have to be a proper way to communicate this. Not just in Parley’s description, but like greying out and lowering the hand a bit to show it has no effects.
I meant active timers for other buff/debuff cards
They wouldn’t be in hand at that point
But yeah it could gray them out in top play area or something
Maybe have the character make a T with their hands to visual signify “TIME OUT”
I just think it would be awkward if it ONLY affected potato timer
I said that because Hot Potato doesn’t have a timer by design and that addition could help communicate it but yes that too.

Something having a counter doesn't make it not need a rework

Read the title where it sayes that with parley its unfun
You culd have just used ice block, instead of using all cards
hot potato is fun in a vacuum: it distracts you from the fight, otherwise -100hp, it's great! too bad some people love optimizing the fun out of this game. I think the most elegant fix is making hot cards immune to stuff like parley/barbed cards/whatever. It also opens the door for hot card design in the future.

Not gonna lie, I did this twice in a row
Bad idea because bombs from bomb belt are hot cards
That crossed my mind but I quickly wrote it off for that reason
I don't think that makes it a bad idea. Bomb belt still needs a nerf 
I know, I didn't say that would be a nerf :p
