#

ill give microsoft credit, vscode is optimized very well

#

but itll never match native

sick storm
#

ok it runs, kind of

#

you can tell the linux build is not stable

#

but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to change projects

worthy lintel
#

top left i think

sick storm
#

yeah there's just the one I opened

worthy lintel
#

there's no alt menu either so idk how to do anything

#

oh it has similar binds to vscode

#

ctrl shift p brings up command palette

sick storm
#

I'll give it a few more years to mature

#

but it's cool i guess

#

this + already core dumped once doesnt sound very stable

worthy lintel
#

but rust is meant to be safe!!!

sick storm
#

the fact that I'm using NixOS probably has something to do with these errors

worthy lintel
#

error message definitely reads that way

#

assuming different distros handle binding values differently

sick storm
#

yea because the editor is trying to install these language servers onto my system automatically

#

nixos is not having any of that

#

but that is to be expected

#

I dont like the copilot and ai integration

lean river
#

Wow I hate website building

#

or it's probably my plugins suck

#

I need to align a button's text but the only way to do that (from the official website) is through CSS

#

And guess what, CSS is paywalled

#

what?

sick storm
#

what exactly are you using to build this website

#

seems like one of those shitty drag and drop platforms

lean river
#

Elementor?

#

Man that's what the course recommended to use

#

I joined a website building course and like I got to a point where the site is up and I can add menus

#

But still I am a complete dummy but I know what CSS does and that's not happening here

lean river
#

Ease of Use UI is what I need right now so it might be blasphemy for this channel but I want to touch as little code as I can

sick storm
#

the thing about these easy builders is if you want to do anything outside of the predetermined building blocks it's just not going to work

lean river
#

Well

#

Easy is priority right now lmao I just need this to be kinda simple and "set and forget"

#

I don't need animations I just need accessibility and

#

What you call it

#

Responsiveness

#

Yeah my plugins suck ass

#

but I don't know if I can even switch a website builder if I want because .... well I dunno, probably gonna break everything that I have set up?

#

I want to call myself a tech enthusiast but code is my lava because now I remember why I hated it despite taking 5 semesters of it

worthy lintel
#
.my-button {
  text-align: center;
}
lean river
#

See pic I sent above

worthy lintel
#

xd

#

what shitty builder is this

#

never heard of elementor

lean river
#

Elementor KEK

sick storm
#

that's what im sayingg

worthy lintel
#

just use squarespace

sick storm
#

it seems to be a wordpress plugin(?)

lean river
#

IUNNO MAN I am a kid here in website building

worthy lintel
#

oh god even worse

lean river
#

I mean it does the job of making it fairly easy for me to understand

#

You have a space

#

Drag and drop an element

#

Position and modify it

#

And tbh that's where I want to keep it

#

But as a Photoshop user

#

Text alignment on an element is ......basic ass shit

#

The fact that I have to use CSS to align text is sus

worthy lintel
#

not really

#

if it was an option on the button element then it would just apply style="text-align:center;" anyway

#

locking css behind a paywall is the sus part

lean river
#

By default, the text in Elementor Button widgets is aligned to the center. However, you can use custom CSS to align the text button to the left, right, or justified. This can be useful for creating buttons to match or align with your website design.
Literally their FAQ page

worthy lintel
#

lol

lean river
#

Another sus part, nowhere on their page says "this feature is for Pro users"

hot pawn
#

that being an FAQ is so alien to me

sick storm
#

This is definitely on purpose LOL

#

they KNOW people want to align text and put it behind a paywall

lean river
#

Okay surface leveling

#

I am on WordPress

#

What'a a better site builder but before that if I change a site builder, will it break anything I've set up currently?

sick storm
#

most likely it will break everything

hot pawn
#

squarespace is pretty good, but they dont have a free tier

#

i liked wix when i tried it in school, they do have a free version

#

wix let you edit pretty much every cosmetic detail, but i havent used it in like 8 years so it might have changed

sick storm
lean river
#

OK BOIS

#

I am moving on from Elementor (which is shit)

#

pls recommend some easy to set up website builder for WordPress

worthy lintel
#

rewriting something small in go and im not sure how i feel about the stdlib

#

i'm so used to things like Array.map, .filter etc so needing to just make empty arrays and use for loops feels wrong

worthy lintel
#

do we have any devops nerds in

#

need suggestions on how to architect a db layer for multi-tenancy that requires data isolation
currently using turso but they've rugpulled on two fronts:

  • deprecated schema templates, so now i'm running on an unsupported architecture
  • migrated to AWS. i'm grandfathered into their flyio instances but can't migrate to AWS because they don't support a region i need
increasingly looking like i'm gonna need to roll my own setup thats deployed to n regions but managing migrations for that sounds like a nightmare

Came here to say

#

Gemini-CLI is magic

worthy lintel
#

for programming or something else?

#

cause gemini isn't the best model rn

lean river
#

Something else

#

I don't do shit programming but I know my way around package managers/cli apps

#

Or rather

worthy lintel
#

claude code and opencode are better cli tools but i don't think either of those support signing in with google accounts, only api keys

lean river
#

I used to know programming in CLI since I've been scarred with Vim in the three years I had wit compsci

lean river
#

I am making my max use of my AI Pro sub

worthy lintel
#

gemini 3 might be coming soon so you're probably in luck

lean river
#

Nice

#

I am already kinda blown away with what 2.5 Pro is capable of

worthy lintel
#

you'd like claude opus or gpt-5-high then

lean river
#

Maybe

#

But I am this far submitted my blood to the heathens of Google I might as well expand my Google ecosystem

#

Inject Gemini to my blood

#

Like I am already knee deep

#

Everyone else would tell me this isn't a wise decision and I kinda feeling like dat rn

#

But the unlimited Meet and the 2.5 Pro is hard to pass

#

Since I am also part-time educator

worthy lintel
#

meh if you get use out of it PES2_Shrug

lean river
#

Oh yeah definitely

worthy lintel
#

work pays for my $100 p/m claude max sub and i've been putting $400 worth of usage through it

lean river
#

I used it to do my lecture notes, but not just ANY lecture notes

#

Lectures notes that needed to reach specific target audiences

#

does anyone have strong feelings about specific linux distro

dapper basin
#

I seen Mint getting lots of praise, thinking on joining that and learning how to use it

#

Later down when I feel comfortable I want to try out Arch

jolly crystal
#

im done w windows and bouta try switching my laptop first, planning on trying endeavorOS first which is based on arch but is a little less daunting to me lol

#

ive only ever used debian, ubuntu, and red hat back in the day. i feel old hearing all these newer distros lol

#

mint is the one i would try next if i dont like endeaver lol

jolly crystal
#

i was curious what people think in general, not w a specific use in mind!

worthy lintel
#

nix fixes this

jolly crystal
#

my friend said nix is the most popular these days?

#

i didnt really see it being recommended much tho

worthy lintel
#

idk about most popular, leroy will know more

#

it's liked because you can configure the entire system in code and your environment is reproducible easily, more of a power user thing

jolly crystal
#

ah i see

i'll consider it in the future

i recommend it to everybody 💪

dapper basin

So far no luck

have to go in the BIOS settings to enable it

im downloading endeavor rn lol

dapper basin

I get the install but it seems I still have the windows partition on it because whenever I boot it it has the installation process for it

dapper basin
#

I looked at the resource monitor and its crazy how much ram is being used

#

2.3gb

#

compared to fucking whole ass 9gb in windows 10

#

really makes a difference when you dont have fucking bloatware and proper optimization

#

So far I got Dragon Age installed and working

jolly crystal
#

nice

#

i was having hard drive issues yesterday (laptop is 10 years old lol) but when i have the time i'll try again

#

i was also using a flash drive that's like . 20 years old so that could be the problem LOL

#

my friend was like was thats older than some of my other friends! and then i needed a moment to myself

dapper basin
#

For like $4

#

right? its ridiculous

#

Issue I had was the boot issue and disabling the Intel Ray Something

#

So I had to go back in the boot

#

after I installed it, I deleted the windows partition

#

I aint dealing with the bullshit

worthy lintel
#

using a different bootloader can break windows' secure boot too right?

#

which is a no-go for certain games

dapper basin
#

I wasnt gonna do be dual booting so it wasnt a problem for me

#

I quit the bullshit

jolly crystal
#

finally got the last bit of software (ffxiv lol) that i care about working on my laptop so i'll be switching my desktop next

dapper basin
jolly crystal
#

nope! it didnt work at first but then i deleted and reinstalled and it was fine lol

dapper basin
#

oh nice

jolly crystal
#

said finally cause i had a bit of software i cared about but also not a lot of free time to do it lol

dapper basin
#

gotcha gotch a

#

havent touched my laptop since I instlled Mint on it but also need to factory reset my macbook back to MacOS 18 bc I just cant handle 26,

worthy lintel
#

is there literally any software other than forcebindip that can force a program to run on a specific network connection?

#

forcebindip injects code so it's not gonna work for games with anticheat

jolly crystal

lean river
#

@worthy lintel what are the possibilities that you are open to hire?

#

Just a thought

worthy lintel
#

if you can write typescript and react better than claude opus 4.5 and get a new zealand work visa then i could get you a job

lean river
#

Oh crap

#

I worded that wrong

#

No I was saying "are you hire-able"?

worthy lintel
#

oh lmao

#

uhh would depend on timeframe etc

lean river
#

Not soon

worthy lintel
#

probably better to dm if youre actually serious

lean river
#

So don't start anything yet, I want you to give it a thought first.

#

I am a self-learnt acoustician that was taught by my company.

For the past 3 years I've wrote and developed multiple proposals and my services are, what would people call "catered to each client", and I want to slowly let go of what I've done for these 3 years to someone else.

The biggest hurdle that I am facing right now is that, each of these proposals needs the subjective human consideration, of which sometimes cannot be crunched with numbers.

And even with the calculation tools we have, the time taken for each proposal is, for a lack of a better word, very long (takes 1 and a half weeks for each client), which, if we are stacked with enquiries, will push us back further.

What I need is; automated system of some sort, so that we can sift through client's enquiries in a much faster way, so that producing the proposal can be much accelerated.

What I am saying is that the goal of this automated system that we are going to develop, is that to take out most of the objective points that can be calculated by Google Sheets/softwares/calculators, and basically 'bot' them.

#

Most of the human processes that was carried out are still very much needs human intervention, but the inputs are normally;

  1. What is the site's name, condition;

  2. Dimensions (more detailed, better)

  3. Use case/goal

  4. An RT60 table that we gather from using an acoustic measurement tool

Anything additional after that is usually subjective design stuff that may still need human intervention, but I am very open to custom solutions that can be 'botted'.

#

Procrastinating through Gemini told me this is better with Python, but the visuals is still largely GSuite apps (since we're a 100% GSuite company)

#

I fed my proposal through Gemini Deep Research and it basically laid out an entire roadmap of what to do, which is great

worthy lintel
#

sounds like you want something akin to pre-screening before it hits a human desk or something

lean river
#

But the problem is that I can't do any of the backend stuff

#

I have both knowledge and time constraint

#

Time constraint but not in the way you think

#

Time constraint as in "I do not have the time of day to put my brain to learn how to bot"

lean river
#

I have the Deep Research doc if you want to read further but again

#

This is purely still at research level, meaning I also trying to procure local talents

worthy lintel
#

give one of those vibecoding tools like replit or loveable a go and see how far you get

lean river
#

Just that you are the one outsider I know that can give...maybe second opinions?

worthy lintel
#

it sounds ike youre pretty much just asking for an llm to summarize given inputs around some set instructions/rules/context/domain info

lean river
#

Fair but it needs to be a tool/bot that my fellow employees can use onsite

worthy lintel
#

yeah you can eject to a git repo but i mean see how far you can get in terms of it working

#

if you can prove the concept works and gives results you're happy with via a cheap vibecode subscription then you arent wasting time hiring someone to get you an mvp

lean river
#

Meaning it has to be built; needs a UI (but looking pretty is way way down on the list), and speeds up proposal making

worthy lintel
#

replit/loveable etc speeds up the concept/mvp phase yeah

#

once you prove it works and the results are good, you can then move forward with something proper

#

last thing you want to do is spend time and money building something out that might not even work properly

lean river
#

The Deep Research output thingy

worthy lintel
#

heh im kinda doing something similar at work with report generation

lean river
#

Yeah that's like...what I do 5 days a week

#

Typing out proposals

#

Smashing my head whether this client needs soundproofing or acoustics (which is completely different term and situation)

worthy lintel
#

i have literally no domain knowledge with the audio stuff but calculations are just calculations, any language can do this, not just python

lean river
#

Most of these are math

#

Which I....................loathe

worthy lintel
#

gemini is probably the best for math if you wanted to just pre-screen and get something close that isn't 100% perfect

#

does google not have like a power user interface where you can drop documents etc into it?

#

claude and gpt have document reading/editing now

lean river
#

or I have the wrong prompts

worthy lintel
#

no not in-docs, i know gemini is garbage there

#

like in claude i could drop some excel files in here and it'll use its document editing tools to read and update them, can gemini not do that yet?

lean river
#

No I don't think so

worthy lintel
#

bruh

lean river
#

And I sub

worthy lintel
#

i think i have one week claude pro passes still, ill dm the link so you can give it a go and see if just dumping documents into it works

lean river
worthy lintel
#

somehow it doesnt surprise me that google is behind here

what do you mean debug mode, dev console?
