I always thought LLMs had some advanced core code to try and control their outputs. But instead from leaks it seems like they just have extra embedded written prompts that they just hope the AI interprets the way they want it to.
Seems risky you end up with conflicts like if one section says "Always be bright and cheery" and another section says "Never be bright and cheery when discussing topics such as war" by definition it will have to ignore one of those
Or more generally you put in some rule in written form and it just ignores it under random circumstances for unclear reasons

contradictions in system prompts can reduce performance, and adherence to system prompts can get worse when the context window (amount of content loaded) gets filled up
