Read the paper a good while back and sped through the video. Think my biggest issue is the idea that there would be no great discovery necessary for AGI to be possible. Doesnt really seem like that to me right now. Afaik model collapse from too much synthetic data is still a problem, anthropic just showed that a relatively small amount of malicious training data can seriously inhibit a models capabilities, somehow all of the slightly challenging benchmarks are stuck below 100% success rate, the models dont know what they dont know and we dont have a guarantee that throwing more weights and more data and more compute at these problems will fix any of those.
Not to mention the "smaller" problems that are gonna pop up once agents are in widespread use like prompt injection

but as it stands, an age restriction check for social media serves the same purpose as Texas forcing age/ID checks for porn sites.

there are a few countries that have digital ID systems in place that could force this to work, say South Korea for example, where many online apps, accounts, etc. require a combination of national ID and phone number.
I still find that way too deep a violation of privacy, but at least there is a system in place that has been tried and has more or less worked for some time.
Though I would in no way advocate for universal digital ID like that...

so a patchwork approach can do more harm than good, way too many risks that have not been thought out when implementing such policies
If you have options like large regional coordination, maybe more education and stronger parental controls, or at the very fucking least, privacy preserving age proofs so the rules and laws actually protects kids without piling on intrusive data collection, then go right ahead and make it work.
