Basically the tl;dr of all respectable reviewers: Solid AC gameplay, but too little, too unpolished (read: full of glitches, bugs and broken AI) and a story so barebone you'd think it was out in the desert winds for too long

And for that they charge full price, pretending for it to be a fully fledged mainline title

Biggest sin imo is that apparently the parcours system which is the core of classic AC is just not working properly

they didnt have an iron grip from the start

overwatch esports didnt start with owl

korea had a huge scene with OGN running 4 seasons of apex open. eleague, faceit, mlg were running overwatch in the west

then blizzard announced owl and that it would have a combine, which then put the entire scene on ice for a year because orgs didnt want to risk having players under contract just for them to be swept away into owl

what actually killed owl was a few things:

• the game itself stagnated heavily with piss poor content after year 3 or so
• poor game balance (mercy rework, brig) which resulted in the devs making poor decisions to fix their mistakes (role lock to counter goats)
• covid killed the city based aspect of the league
• ABK's sexual assault stuff nuked all but like 1 sponsor

Well, it also never really popped off so to say due to Blizzard's poor management of the whole scene. It's probably the most regulated esports scene in terms of how hands on the developer is. But it is also one of the like, very much not that successful esports scenes
